Re: What exactly is equanimity?

Hi Vesak Can you describe house hold equanimity in your words with some examples? :) Hi, actually you have provided the examples: Ok for an example, -a three year old child kill a bug, without any anger or attachment. -A person see a stranger dying in the roadside. He just walk away without any ang...

Re: Are there five senses or six senses?

I'm talking about upekkhā vedanā , there is no such thing, and it is not the pali term for the third type of feeling. This small yet critical error makes the rest of the path misleading. What is the difference between upekkhindriya , classed as vedanā and said to be anything to be experienced as ad...

Re: Are there five senses or six senses?

The way I understand there is no un skill (wrong) equanimity. According to Buddhism equanimity is always wholesome. The way I understand equanimity may arise from wholesome activities or unwholesome activities. But Buddha encourage us to experience equanimity by wholesome activities. It is less dam...

"Good luck to you, sir." ~ Trungpa This one might be more appropriate for your own contemplation, vesak2014: "Nevertheless, if a person is skilled enough - not necessarily intelligent - but skilled enough and patient enough to sift through his own rubbish and study it thoroughly, the...

Re: How low can you go?

Given the games you have played in earlier threads, what a boring surprise. Be patient, keep the ball rolling, and you will elicit more. It's not a game, instead It's an approach to keep the discussion going by stimulating thinking rather than merely listening. The context is... they are your own w...

Re: Actors go to Hell?

I'm not sure of what you're trying to say. Anyway, I have strong faith in the triple gem. That doesn't mean I have strong faith in texts that are meant to represent teachings that were heard 450 years before they were written down. Such texts have been around for 2050 years. Since we've seen what h...

Re: How low can you go?

Not sure how much I like using 'low,' in reference to nibbana.. If a thing is 'low' then there are other things 'higher' than it, and is nibbana not described as the highest bliss? It also suggests a depth, as if you're referring merely to a deep meditative state rather than a permanent attainment ...

Re: Actors go to Hell?

I wonder whether I misunderstand the sutta. This is an old thread so I'd like to ask (for confirmation) those who commented recently (clw_uk, waterchan, David N. Snyder.) After reading the sutta, according to it, you guys think actors go to hell? Seriously? Who can say  If we take the positi...

Nice, inspiring mapping of the "low" metaphor to temperature. What is got cooled to absolute zero?

Re: Is Progress Along The Path Self Generated

When a psychic power is being demonstrated, people may think that's because of a kind of charm or amulet. In case of David Copperfield, David Blaine, Criss Angel, Cyril Takayama (to mention a few), the psychic powers come from the third party entity ( - you live in Asia, you should have known this....

Re: How low can you go?

Does anybody really believe that talking about nibbana in their own words is a good idea? I mean if someone didn't get the meaning of nibbana through the terms used in the suttas, implied that those terms alone are enough to understand what nibbana means in the first place, knowing that an enlighte...
