Re: "Ariyasāvaka" in DN 31 for householders ???

These suttas tell about those on the way to stream-entry, there's no mention of putthujjanas. he shaves off his hair and beard, puts on the yellow robe, and goes forth from the home life into homelessness. It is in this way that a noble disciple comes out into the open... When, Aggivessana, the nob...

Re: "Ariyasāvaka" in DN 31 for householders ???

Sometimes this term refers to those who have not yet attained stream-entry: idha pana gihī vā hotu pabbajito vā, yo koci sutavāti ettha vuttassa atthassa vasena sutasampanno, ayaṃ ariyasāvakoti veditabbo. Re: What are the basses for enlightenment factors?

Hi Srilankaputra, thank you Bhante! I live a rather secluded life, but I am not ordained at all. Am i correct in thinking, kammatthanas are the basses for developing the bojjangas. Well, the methods of practice (kammatthana) are, of course, essential for development of bojjhangas. However this sutta...

Re: What are the basses for enlightenment factors?

Hi Srilankaputra, But what are the different things. What are the options available to us? So far the development of these seven factors requires personal study with an experienced teacher, for example, Venerable Uda Eriyagama Dhammajīva: http://www.vipassana.com/resources/box/dhammajiva-sevenfactor...

Re: Bilingual pali/english suttas

I would also recommend translations at Leigh Brasington's website: http://leighb.com/sn56-11.htm http://leighb.com/suttas.htm#bilingual Sujato in his renderings of the suttas often rephrases the text for the sake of simplicity of meaning. So at Suttacentral I would recommend the translations by Bhik...

Re: Meaning of Akiñcanaṃ & Anādānaṃ ?

Hi, You may find helpful two articles from the Critical Pali Dictionary: a-kiñcana, mfn. Re: I've had a few...but then again...too few to mention...

Remorse (Kukkucca) is one of the five nīvāraņas, about which Buddha said that they are a heap of unwholesome, and from unwholesome cannot come anything wholesome. But seeing a fault as a fault is a growth in the Noble Ones' discipline. Acknowledge, try not to do it again, and move on. Yes, "hiri" a...

I have access to another paper belonging to the same author, and I found this part very interesting, that they defined nimitta as a contact point:
Why do you think they defined nimitta as a contact point?

Re: Is learning pali really helpful?

So th debates about the meaning of nimitta and the like are purely scholarly and have no incidence on practice or right view? If the answer is yes then indeed maybe pali is not such a good investment... Thanks to research of the term 'nimitta' I've been able to apply in practice the Buddha's instru...
