Re: Dropping head, drooling and swallowing reflex in meditat
I definitely deal with too much saliva/annoying need to swallow as well. I seem to simply generate a lot of the stuff. So I can give you a couple suggestions. First, which relates to head-drooping, watch your posture. Not letting your posture slump forward will better prevent saliva pooling in your ...

Samyutta Nikaya III 144: "Bhikkhus [monks, the Buddha said, holding a fleck of dung on his fingernail], if even if that much of permanent, everlasting, eternal individual selfhood, not inseparable from the idea of change, could be found, then this living the holy life could not be taught by me....

Re: Scripture that is well known to those raised Buddhist
My impression as an American is that the majority of claimed Christians haven't really read the bible either, at least not in any exhaustive way. Just sayin'.

Re: Any relation between Jannah and Jhana?
This kind of thing happens by coincidence all the time in language. The verbal root for "cut" in Japanese and the Australian language Lardil are both something like "kir" but that doesn't actually indicate anything. There are only so many possible combinations of the frequent hum...

Re: I'd rather be reborn
I think the funny thing is that, the conditions for the end of continuance are the same as the conditions for ending any fear of non-continuance. Not being reborn requires destruction of the 3 roots, which is also the condition for the end of dukkha. But the reduction of those factors is demonstrabl...

Re: judgment-free awareness
I think that this approach actually automatically satisfies right effort, because that kind of attitude is really just the sort of thing that feeds good qualities and starves bad ones, settles the mind, and allows clear comprehension, in an nearly (but not entirely) effortless way. It is a very refi...

If I had to name one thing, it would be maranasati. Which has been said, but still. Just that recollection can be the antidote to every hindrance, and a great motivator.

Re: Anyone ever fallen asleep and witnessed it?
I believe this happens to me occasionally, moreso during random daytime naps, rather than bedtime, for some reason. I feel like my experience is similar to what you described in the OP. A gradual loss of embodiedness and loss of perception, which can lead to that feeling of dissolving into gentle bl...

If it is just cold, that's an asava to be endured. Kayagatasati is prescribed for this: Ugh, the cold. There are things that I can deal with like this, but the cold is not one of them. In the middle of winter, it's all I can do to keep my constant mantra of "**** you nature" from blurting...
