I also noticed his absence. His contributions were so valuable, both here and on Aloka's site. Wishing him well.

Yes! I have contemplated this. And, although I can get rather nitpicky about the 4th precept, in these instances, I tend to tick "read and understand" without having read (or at least without having read every single line of) the multiple screens of tiny text.

What a great image! As is the one of Ben re-posted by Modus.Ponens.Ben wrote:Tasmanian Tiger Snake giving a skink a lift.
We have several snakes at home. My partner has been keeping them for decades. (All have the proper permits and none are venomous; all are handled with great care.)

Re: Lifespan of beings in the hell realm
There are internet Buddhists that are very good practitioners I'm sure that is true. These two professors [Rupert Gethin, Richard Gombrich] are no doubt very highly educated and highly intellectual. But I doubt they are serious Dhamma practitioners. The italicized statement may be untrue and is fur...

Re: Jack Kornfield "Psychedelics and Spiritual Practice"
Ajahn Jayasaro once recalled in a Dhamma talk a moment that resonated for him from years earlier. He was reading a book that included a question and answer session between a group of western students and a spiritual teacher. One of the students asked the teacher what he thought about mind-expanding ...

Hi Chi, Thank you for your questions. Your inquisitiveness is a delight! Oh, man. Do you ever have moral dilemmas about working in the pharmaceutical industry? Yes. However, I don't manufacture, test, or sell pharmaceuticals. I just write about disease states and the medications used to treat them. ...

Re: Precepts for Personal Practice
Hi KB, Feel kind of strange posting this but I wanted to put this out there to see if anyone else has done anything similar and to get your thoughts (if any) on some additional training rules I've undertaken (in addition to the 8 Lifetime Precepts) to help me cultivate the brahmaviharas and work on ...

Re: Attachment to family
Metta simply means you wish that the other learn to act in skilful ways - i.e. keep the five precepts and practice meditation to eliminate the ill-will in their own hearts. That is a definition of metta I've not come across. My understanding is that metta as an encompassing and expansive quality of...

Re: "Its like this"
I'll try to correct anything that I think contradicts the Buddha's teachings and that masquerades as wisdom wherever it rears its head, not where you tell me to. It's no contradiction; effort is one thing, mindfulness another. This mindfulness is only observation, while it's the goal of effort to a...
