In which sutta does the Buddha explain what no self means?
I would like to understand whether the typical Western understanding of no self is the same as the traditional understanding. Does anyone have suggestions for which texts I can begin with to understand what is traditionally meant by no self?

Re: What are some goods books/resources to learn metta meditation from?
This book contains the talks and guided meditations from a Metta Retreat led by Ajahn Pasanno. https://www.abhayagiri.org/books/584-abundant-exalted-immeasurable Edit: You might google "dhammawheel metta" as this has been discussed here -- there might be other ways to search, but this will work. Th...

Re: What are some goods books/resources to learn metta meditation from?
Perhaps you could focus on the well wishing or intention (may I be happy, may x be happy, may all be happy or well) rather than looking for feelings that you may not have yet. So, like, just say those words in my head over and over? Usually I try to not think during meditation, is metta different?

What are some goods books/resources to learn metta meditation from?
Does anybody have any suggestions? I think I have a general idea of how to practice metta but when I try to do it I can't find any feelings of loving-kindness to focus on, even when I focus on the "easy" people. When a feeling is there, it's hard to tell whether it's true metta or just attachment si...

What is "breath energy"?
I'm reading With Each & Every Breath by Thanissaro Bhikkhu. He talks about sending "breath energy" through various parts of the body in meditation and creating a "cocoon of good breath energy" when someone is sharing their struggles with you.
What does this mean? Does it just mean visualizing air?

How do I start out in the Theravada tradition?
Hello, I've been practicing Zen meditation for a few years and want to check out the Theravada tradition, but I don't really know where to start. I see that there's a Theravada monastery near me, but it doesn't have any regular meeting times for lay practitioners like the Zen centers I'm used to. It...

If life is suffering, then wouldn't it be unethical to have children?
Wouldn't that be bringing a child into an existence which is suffering?

Question about subtleness of breathing.
Hi, when I'm practicing breathing meditation, the more I concentrate on my breathe the subtler it becomes (I believe that is what is supposed to happen). Untill I get to a point where the breathing becomes so subtle I feel like I need to gasp for air. when this this happens I have to breathe harder....

Knees Touching the ground (posture question)
I've read that in a cross legged posture your knees should touch the ground, and if not I either need to put pillows under my knees or get a higher seat. But I have relatively thick calf and thigh muscles which prevent my knees from touching the floor, what should I do in this situation? they say yo...
