Re: Hi guys

Dear Fluke,

Only thing in 2-3 days vipassana can't be learnt let alone practised. You might end up taking a mild course and loosing the benefits that come with it.

Better take a 10 days course at Goenkaji's centers

Re: Did Buddha say “The world is but an illusion?

Dear all,

Suffering is a truth which Buddha called an Arya Satya, one of the realisations without realising which no one can hope to even become a sotapanna.

Instead of this debate would request all to practise Vipassana where you would realise what is meant by illusory.

A sotapanna justifying drug addiction, really ? Dear xtracorroupt, you need help ! By intoxicants, nobody means only alcohol but any intoxicant which somebody takes (solid / liquid / gaseous) This includes something that somebody makes out of ( in future ) metal / wood/ stardust / asteroids / any ot...

Re: Rebirth of a Sotapanna

Dear Mike,

Lets not doubt things just because they are prime nos. more than this doubt lets put efforts for maintaining that required mindfulness for just 7 days. Mind you what Buddha means is keeping that mindfulness unbroken continuously for 7 days and intervening nights.

Re: How bad is killing a mosquito?

You can't wear a mosquito net, there needs to be gap between the net and your skin for it to work. Even if u have mosquito repellents but if a mosquito has managed through that, what do u do ! I mean it is a practical situation.

Re: Sotapanna and five precepts

Don't remember the sutta but what I understand is that the things which a sotapanna can't do are : 1. Patricide 2. Matricide 3. Hurting a Buddha ( kill nobody can) 4. Cause schism in Buddha's order 5. Kill an Arhant This are probably the worst crimes which a sotapanna can't do. On other things they ...

Re: Month Long Solitary Meditation Retreat

Hi, I would also recommend doing a retreat in Goenkaji's tradition. You could find more details on below website : http://www.dhamma.org/en/bycountry/na/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; These are run purely on a non obligatory donation basis and you could contribute by doing...

Re: Time: Q&A: Is there life after death?

Could it be that what is referred to as a stage of after life is one of the 32 bhumis is outlined by the Buddha ? since anyways nobody stays in afterlife forever. But don't know for sure since my experience of vipassana tells me that there actually nano second to nano second death and living so the ...

Re: Having a relative/ friend who is Sotapanna

I personally believe love is the key and as it gets directed towards more and more people it develops the person as well as creates more merit. But this going off topic slightly. That's right, and if that's the case it shouldn't matter what level of attainment of the receiver. One doesn't sit down ...

Re: Having a relative/ friend who is Sotapanna

Dear Hanzze, Frankly have not been able to understand your point. I don't agree that a Dana given with moha does not produce results, it does but the effect is much lesser than one without any attachment ( which except for noble ones) don't think anyone else is capable of doing. I personally believe...

Re: Having a relative/ friend who is Sotapanna

Dear Hanzze, Did not quite understand the meaning of your last sentence :"of course .......... Very teaching". Also please understand the point here is not what somebody is doing for increasing his merit. The relatives may not even know if a person is a sotapanna and only out of genuine lo...

Re: Having a relative/ friend who is Sotapanna

Too much merit could be a dangerous thing. The suttas mentioned that a deva who enjoys all the luxury and comfort in their heavenly world wouldn't tend to see the necessity and the urgency for Dhamma practice. A more important question is that given all the merits that you have, what are you gonna ...

Re: Having a relative/ friend who is Sotapanna

For me, even between a hungry child and a healthy sammasambuddha, I'd definitely give to the hungry child without hesitation. I think this is what the Buddha really meant when He taught that the merit of giving to a sammasambuddha is still much less than a moment of practicing metta or contemplatin...
