Vehicles for Enlightenment (and, "Correct Practice"): Resident Monks: Please Advise.

Dear Venerable Sir, Today, please advise me in regards to to a beneficial practice mode which culminates with enlightenment. As we know, disability & the need for structure and daily medications would hinder my practice as a fully-ordained Monk. So I must practice as to the best of my ability wi...

Question: Video Games & The Eight Precepts

Hello Friends,

I am a disabled person, which means I don't get out much.
I practice mediation, but cannot do all day non-stop.
Am wondering about video games: may serve as healthy short-term
diversion, or not (?)
Wondering if they are against the
8 Precepts.

Question: Anagarikas

I'm aware of Anagarikas as being the "middle ground" between Layperson and Bhikku,
and I do have one question:
Are Anagarikas allowed to live outside monastery grounds in their own private residences,
or must Anagarikas live on the Monastery grounds at all times?

Thanks,

CC

Re: Enlightenment Question (Please View)

Thanks for the answers thus far. The Patisambhidamagga has the following illustration: [Mental and physical] arising is conditioned phenomena. Non-arising is nibbana. [Mental and physical] occurrence is conditioned phenomena. Non-occurrence is nibbana. [Mental and physical] sign is conditioned pheno...

Enlightenment Question (Please View)

Dear Friends, My question is in regard to the following line of reasoning which can be found in the Pali Canon: 'How inconstant are compounded things! Their nature: to arise & pass away. They disband as they are arising. Their total stilling is bliss.' Are the Five Aggregates here included with ...

Re: Handling Angry Thoughts/Emotions

Thank you for your interesting replies.
as I remember, the monk Yuttadhammo Bhikku stressed a similar point:
He stated that the medications ay be sowing my progress, and that I should face the
anxiety and delusions to get over them.
Don't know if that would work....

Handling Angry Thoughts/Emotions

Dear Friends, This is of particular importance to me and probably some other people on the forums. If any Venerables on the forum would contribute I would appreciate this. What does the Buddha say we should do when faced with angry emotions, not just when meditating, but throughout the day? I know a...

Question for Monks/Community: Forest Kutis

Dear Friends,

Could you give me a typical outline of the daily schedule for monks at a forest monastery?
Such as, how much time is left to individual practice, etc.
Do the monks sleep in their Kuti, or somewhere else?

Thanks,

Corey

Re: Monastic Live vs Household Live

Dear Friends in Dhamma, Bhikku Bodhi has advised me that in my case ordination isn't necessary, since I live in the quietude of the forest- quiet, conductive to contemplation. Also I do not work- disabled - and further Ven. Bodhi has stated that my situation even has some advantages over Monastic li...

Monastic Live vs Household Live

Dear Friends, I own a home situated in the wilderness, peaceful and without distraction. Living alone, I have no family or wife to take care of. Disabled, I received disability from the government and don't have to/cannot work. In theory, I could practice meditation/contemplation as a solitary in th...
