A) What is the present moment ? - when you lift your left foot, your mind should follow the left foot lifting - when you move your left foot forward, your mind should follow the moving of the left foot forward - when you place the left foot on the floor, the mind should be w...

Re: First Discourse Question #2: Vision, Knowledge...

iirc, sometimes the Suttas will list synonyms that aren't necessarily attributes to be differentiated. Many contemporary scholars suggest that there is a certain level of overinterpretation with respect to this sort of thing... Thanks. I appreciated that. I liked that. (see what I did there? :smile...

First Discourse Question #2: Vision, Knowledge...

(BTW, Question #1 was the understanding, abandonning, realizing and developing thread)

So, as repeated multiple times, what does the following mean:

....there arose in me vision, knowledge, wisdom, penetration, and light.

What is the distinction between these attributes?

Thanks

Re: understood, abandoned, realized and developed

Re: understood, abandoned, realized and developed

Thank you, Pondera. I like the points you made.

But why say: The noble truth of the origin of suffering should be abandoned?

Why not just say: the origin of suffering should be abandoned?

Re: Redemptive suffering

:offtopic: Your thread made me think of some lines from MLK jr.'s "I have a Dream" speech. I am not unmindful that some of you have come here out of great trials and tribulations. Some of you have come fresh from narrow cells. Some of you have come from areas where your quest for freedom l...

understood, abandoned, realized and developed

I would appreciate thoughts on the following from the first discourse. The noble truth of suffering should be understood. This makes sense. Seems to fit. The noble truth on the orgin of suffering should be abandoned. Does this mean that craving that leads to renewed existance...craving for sensual p...
