Re: Ajahn Brahm, unconventional

I was at a talk by Ajahn Brahm in Brisbane a year or so ago. He told the same jokes I'd heard from him before, the same stories I'd read in his books - and then he said abortion was o.k. up to about 16 or more weeks. At that point quite a number of the audience walked out. 3.Should any bhikkhu inte...

Is "Positive thinking" Good or Bad? ..."How, friends, should resentment be removed toward the person whose bodily behavior and verbal behavior are impure but who from time to time gains an opening of the mind, placidity of mind? Suppose there is a little water in a puddle. Then a per...

Re: Ajahn Brahm, unconventional

So now you hold a strong belief that it is possible to levitate. Isn't it strange how the mind works? Mr Man, no I do not hold a strong "belief". it is simply i "know", having witnessed. this is not by some youtube video nor by a con. also, earlier i have no disbelief nor a thou...

Re: Ajahn Brahm, unconventional

need not to be sad, because it is human nature. without getting attached to the person, if you can take the great things he wrote, there will be no problem, and still you can learn and appreciate the dhamma. :) once attached to the person then you want him to be with no faults, once faults found get...

Re: Happy Birthday Ben!!!

Today also marks the 29th anniversary of taking refuge for the first time and my 'homecoming' to the Dhamma. Not a day goes by when I do not think of the great effect it has had on my life and the gratitude I have towards the Buddha, the Sangha and my teacher. that is definitely something to celebr...

Re: Ajahn Brahm, unconventional

I don't think levitation (the physical body floating off the floor) is possible but I could be wrong ;) you are wrong for sure, because i witnessed this once. and of course, the monk was not an ajahn brahm student. ;) AB has a rockstar status in my country. But i suspect most people go to his talks...

"Monks, these two slander the Tathagata. Which two? He who explains what was not said or spoken by the Tathagata as said or spoken by the Tathagata. And he who explains what was said or spoken by the Tathagata as not said or spoken by the Tathagata. These are two who slander the Tathagata.&quo...

Re: Visiting Sri Lankan Monasteries in May - advice?

Hey there I spent 2 months in Meetirigala (Nissarana Vanaya) when you were at meetirigala, did u meet rev. jotiko? he is one vassa american bhikkhu from wpn. I eventually got fed up with Meetirigala and the fact I was not only discouraged from reading - Nyanavira in particular, but the only English...

Re: Ordination at Wat Pah Nanachat

...although now everybody should gather at the annual January 16th celebration in Wat Pah Pong. " should gather " Is this means all the monks who ordained at WPN are required to travel to WPN on January 16th? If yes, then what action will be taken for a monk who didn't? much written, but ...

Re: Ordination at Wat Pah Nanachat

I see... I thought that kind of a sangha-sannipata should be on May celebrating the Tathagata. However, I have seen in some other traditions too putting more weight on celebrating the founding figure of the "tradition". Thanks, anyway. :) these excerpts prove that the buddha never enterta...

buddha's sense of humour

Seems that the Vinaya is full of awkward humor! It's a pity we don't have an easily accessible translation of it yet, although I hear Bhante Sujato and co are working on getting it to SuttaCentral . how about this for the buddha's sense of humour? Now at that time a certain monk, tormented by dissa...

Re: Ordination in Sri Lanka

well said beeblebrox, well said! sadhu! sadhu!! surely there is nothing to be disillusioned about, unless the student willingly illusioned himself about the teacher at the first place. buddha gave enough advice regarding how to pick a teacher and the qualifications he must have. to quote thanissaro ...
