Re: Theravada if it includes Buddhaghosa is schismatic

For those who critisize the Visuddhimagga as making its own version of jhāna/not following the Suttas (both false), you sure make your own version of jhāna—which has no basis in the Suttas... and is even contradictory. I don't know what you want to say, you're not making sense. What you've describe...

Re: Theravada if it includes Buddhaghosa is schismatic

Similarly to Leigh Brasington/Bhante Vimalaramsi, and along with your post a few pages back, of which you say you "need to instantly enter all the four jhānas (the first jhāna in 10-20 seconds at most) because you have a busy schedule"... When people make public claims of spiritual attainments (and...

Abodes of beings

So, Buddha (in the Sattavasa Sutta) divides the 31 planes of existence into nine abodes, or levels: Level 1: Kama loka, beings "diverse in body and diverse in perception" Level 2: 1st jhana beings, which are "diverse in body and unified in perception" Level 3: 2nd jhana beings, which are "unified in...

Re: In your view, understanding, Parinibbana is:

As far as understand it, some Vajrayana (and even some Mahayana) traditions interpret nibbana as liberating the mind from being trapped by suffering and negative emotions (anger, greed, etc) by getting it trained in what is basically vipassana way of experiencing things (in a detached way). This is ...

Re: philanthropy and dhamma

Some time after Guatama Buddha had reached Enlightenment, He began walking towards King Bimbisara's Palace to honour the promise that He made, that when He found the answers to His questions He would return to the King and tell Him of His Enlightenment. On the way there He saw a band of soldiers le...

Re: Buddha and God

Various schools of Buddhism believe(d) in Eternal Buddha, appealing to the statement of Gautama Buddha that he is the embodiment of Dhamma and embodiment of Brahma. That would be basically God. Personally, I believe in Adi-Buddha and Adi-Mara, as the only explanation of existence and it's nature tha...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

Regarding right view, the main thing I think which is important there is the view that there one should do good deeds, that reward and punishment for good and bad deeds exists, that the afterlife exists, that morality exists. Buddha specifically pointed out the wrong view as being that which denies ...

Killing animals in self-defense or for other similar necessary purposes might even not be bad kamma. Note that killing animals in itself is not a big sin, it's not a grave offense (garukapatti) like killing a human, or a serious offense (thullaccaya) like injuring a human, but a wrongdoing (dukkata)...

Re: What is Dhammakaya?

Yes, I know about that article, I think I already read it, being that I know about things it talks about, the weird doctrines of the Dhammakaya. I remember I was shocked when I first found out what kind of doctrines they had. And also disappointed, because I myself believe in an Adi-Buddha and Adi-M...

Re: What is Dhammakaya?

One can practice Yogavacara methods of meditation without accept the specific Dhammakaya methods and doctrines. Regarding techniques, personally I have found the Yogavacara method of visualizing a sign and imagine it entering and moving in the body - to be useful for meditation, but Dhammakaya adds ...

Re: nama vs rupa and the immaterial realms?

Buddha says there are six elements / substances which exist: fire, water, earth, air, space, and the consciousness element. The 6th element also seems to be a certain kind of rupa, a sort of non-physical 'material' from which the mind /intellect /psyche is made of (and maybe also what the "bodies" o...

Re: Can other religions contain eightfold path?

I don't see why not. They can even reach the 4th formless jhana without the Buddha. as evidenced by the fact that Gautama Buddha learned it from someone else.

Re: Abortion

Harming and killing insentient beings is not something that can be sensically condemned on an ethical basis. If I kill a plant or a bacteria, or an embryo, or a human in persistent vegetative state, that's not in itself morally wrong. It can be indirectly wrong, like if some other sentient being is ...

Can someone give me a summary of the Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara / PureDhamma teachings about hadaya-vatthu and bhava, which are like a soul and outer-soul if I understood it correctly..?

Re: what are the downsides of getting a flu shot

Throwing around those small numbers and saying "the odds are in your favor" is really just a misrepresentation of statistical data obtained from studying large populations, a "scientific" way to, at best, boost people's morale and give them faith, and at worst, a marketing ploy by the pharmaceutica...
