Re: What's after the end

If a candle runs out of wax and ceases to burn, where does the flame go? Does it go to the East, the West, North, or South? Does it go up or down? The flame ceases to exist.. The flame is a dependently arisen phenomenon(dependent on conditions) and is not a thing. It is neither existent nor non exi...

Re: Celibacy as Silabatta-paramassa

Also look at it this way - if everyone was celibate, you would effectively also be ending the cycle of rebirth because there would be no more babies! :woohoo: What about the other 30 realms of existence, some of which may not even require sexual reproduction to be born in? they are figurative I thi...

Re: Celibacy as Silabatta-paramassa

I think it can be helpful to think of the precepts as "training rules," in the sense "I undertake the training rule to abstain from...." If seen as training rules, adherence to these rules is not an accomplishment, or a measure of how law abiding one is vs. their neighbor, but training rules for on...

Re: Jack Kornfield "Psychedelics and Spiritual Practice"

The Sīlakkhandavagga of the Dīghanikāya does not mention intoxicants, with or without alcohol. Here the Buddha is still talking about the correct behaivior of a reclusive, not a householder or a monk, so it is an open question why the fifth precept is excluded and why it was added afterwards. Of co...

Re: Buddha - Incarnation

Vishnuism, or more accurately Bhagavatism was just starting out as legitimate religious movement during the lifetime of Buddha..the last person to seek guidance from Buddha (the dood with the tri-staff) was most probably a proto-Vaishnavite monk ..I forget his name That Buddha is an incarnation of V...

what I have learnt from my years of practice..if you force on yourself something then your setting yourself up for intense emotional frustration and depression..If you see the wisdom of letting go of something, then let it go..if you don't then donot force upon yourself just becuase you read it in s...

Re: If there is no soul, why doesnot the mind takes rebirth as multiple entities?

what was the predeccesor of the digitized worm? whose kamma it carries? so you are accepting that this digitized worm is creating kamma? (else how can it be reborn as a human?) How can a being with no kamma go on to create kamma (assuming that digitized worm is a totally new beginning)? When did the...

Re: If there is no soul, why doesnot the mind takes rebirth as multiple entities?

The thing is , and I say this BLUNTLY, new developments in science are about to outstrip the traditional understanding of Dhamma Take the example of the worm mind being digitized and put into a robot..Now is that a sentient being?..well it has self-interest, urge for self-preservation, and reacts to...

Re: If there is no soul, why doesnot the mind takes rebirth as multiple entities?

...why doesnot the mind take rebirth as multiple entities? ... If I may replace the term "mind" by "consciousness" then actually consciousness takes rebirth as multiple entities ... not simultaneously but sequentially. why should it be sequentially? I like Shri Dhammanando ji's response but let's l...
