Re: I can't relate...?

Hi Ryan. What I find useful is to realise that the Dhamma is meant to enable us to interact with and communicate with all beings rather than cut us of from them. We do not have to shun idle chatter with our friends but using skilful speech we can inject a quality of compassion into the conversations...

Re: Pope Francis kisses a disfigured man

Jesus's teachings were all about love and compassion. The beatitudes embrace all the marks of a truly enlightened being. This pope seems to be embracing the true teachings of all enlightened masters including our own Buddha. We should be open to learn from all. May the powers that be allow him to co...

Re: Please send some good thoughts my way

Dear friend. I work as a volunteer in a hospice counselling the bereaved, but I could not put it so well as Dagon has. All I can add is to cherish the rare love you and your mother had and still have for each other, don't try and push the pain away, instead hold it tenderly in your arms as you would...

Re: A resolve

Hi Manas. Best wishes on your journey. I'm 31 days into my stop smoking attempt , it's been hard but worth it. I found this website ( nosmoking.org.uk ) to be of great support , it's not a buddhist site of course but the people who use it are very compassionate and caring. There is a forum where you...

Re: If you couldn't be a Buddhist, what would you be?

Hi all. When I examine the basic teachings of all the masters of all religions, I find that their core message is one of love, compassion , and respect for all beings. At the time that's all that existed, the tag of a religion came after their deaths whereupon all the beliefs dogmas etc. we're added....

Re: To Marry or Ordain -Which resources should I consult first?

Hi. I recall that when someone said to the DL that the life of a monk must be very hard, he replied with his customary laugh,"oh no! Now marriage is really hard". Perhaps you should be thinking about what you can Give to other beings in either role rather than what you can gain. Personally...

Re: Newtown Shootings

Hi all. My first reaction was that of horror and deep sadness for the children and their families, also anger towards the perpetrator. However on reflection, for every action there is a cause however incomprehensible that may be. The killer must have felt that his actions were justified even though ...
