Re: What is the conventional self?

When you look inward, when you contemplate reality, there is no self or entity to be found. What you see is various conditioned phenomenon arising and ceasing. Concepts are useful in that they are required for communication. We cannot communicate without these constructs. but that is their only purp...

Re: The karma of thoughts

With a highly untrained mind as most of us have, we give rise to useless unskillful thought all the time. from my experience following after the thought or pushing it away is only a cause for suffering. It is easy to get caught up it the content of thoughts because that is where we live most of the ...

Re: Is Depression Caused by Karma?

I had coarse depression in the past. It is through intensive vipassana that I learned to let go and just observe. Aversion that is a major fuel for depression. You get something you don't like, whether it is a negative thought or an insult or whatever and you get angry. Depression is a kind of anger...

Re: brick walls for training?

Why not just do standard walking meditation, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IFvablc6EI. Half the time you will be trying to balance on the stick which isn't the point of walking meditation. Also standard walking meditation doesn't require special conditions, like a balancing stick for example.

Re: Is Depression Caused by Karma?

I think the best way to deal with depression is to learn about it. Drugs only cover it up. Observe the depression when it arises instead of pushing it away, or following after it like "Oh..this depression is so bad I wish it was not here". Look at what you have been pushing away. Learn abo...

Re: Anger, enraged

As it is right now it seems you are better off being away from them. You have been dependent on them for so long they think they own your life and try to control it as much as possible. It is like this with my mother as well. It is fine, it is the result of clinging on both ends. What you can do is ...

Re: Lust

The most important thing is our reaction ihrjordan. The initial lust arises and ceases quicky, but then there is all the thinking about and identifying with the lust, the physical reactions resulting from the lust and the disliking of the reactions, wanting them to go away. It is important to be awa...

Re: Lust

Hey, ihrjordan, just observe the thoughts and feelings when they arise. don't make it a problem. They are there because you have cultivated them in the past. When the lust arises allow it to and let it pass away. Don,t push it away or follow after it, just note it like anything else. They are just t...

Re: Eradicating sex drive

Hey, how about instead of identifying with the desire and pushing it away or chasing after some "relief", you just observe it mindfully? When the desire arises, just allow it to come up and observe it, get to know the desire and see it for what is it. You can do this through vipassana/insi...

Re: Porn addict and painful and hard cleaning

Hey wolf1, have a look at this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5Lg9P-VekA Forcing yourself to dislike porn isn't going to work. Just be mindful of the feelings that arise while you watch it (the pornography). When the feelings arise don't push them away, observe them closely and objectively. the po...
