Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

When I saw the topic of this thread, I wondered if perhaps there was a suggestion that only "Buddhists who have actually taken refuge in the Triple Gem" should be allowed to post, not just anyone who wants to discuss Buddhism. Any idea how many posters here have done so? Has there ever been ...

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

Please explain how your statements relate to transgender people specifically. What's there to explain? If trans people believe they are equal to others, then why don't they behave equally to others, or as equals to others? If trans people would behave in a manner suggesting that transitioning is so...

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

Of course not. But at least some such people seem to make no drama of it. People who are being disenfranchised and subject to abuse should "make no drama of it." What a regressive idea. If someone believes they were wronged, and they believe they are entitled to redress or better treatment, such a ...

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

...When there is a phobia, such as Transphobia, i think it is important to examine the causes & conditions of this, in a Buddhist manner, rather than think Buddhism is the same as left-wing-cultural-marxist-victimhood ideology. Victimhood ideology is like declaring: " Nazis or Neo-Cons who are bein...

I never claimed "special" status - in fact, the exact opposite.

You and I have gone around about this before, I will not rehash old discussions.

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

For me, its not a matter of questioning a right to even exist or questioning a right to transition but is questioning how this matter is related to Buddhism? 'Transitioning' is not a path to end suffering in Buddhism. For trans people, Buddhist or not, transitioning is a path to end suffering. You ...

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

The trans people I know, myself included, do not expect others to understand why transitioning is so vital. All we expect is to continue to be treated as regular human beings just the same as we were before transitioning. However, dysphoria is not the same as having an opinion or personal preference...

Re: Theravada Buddhism and Trans Folk

Okay, I'll put it this way: Why would someone who is interested in changing their gender/sex be interested in Buddhism? Can someone who is interested in changing their gender/sex be considered as being interested in Buddhism? To the second question- yes, I am a transgender person and I have taken B...

Transitioning, like anything else, is an act that can be carried out wholesomely or unwholesomely. So there is no need to find any specific language in the suttas in order to garner any specific support for it as a "right" choice of lifestyle....

Re: Driving is

Not only was it fun, it improved skills that are invaluable in the daily drive as well. In some European jurisdictions, in order to obtain a driving licence, the prospective driver has to complete a training in safe driving. ... Ah, the skid pad. That was always my toughest challenge. :embarassed: ...

Re: Driving is

Owning my "fun" vote. Agree that daily driving is a chore - but driving in a controlled environment like a race track is a great joy and a real challenge. Back in the day I spent quite a bit of time on various tracks, driving cars and riding motorcycles (not full blown racing, but what is known as o...

Your second post shows blank for me, and I can't speak for Chownah, but I'm guessing your use of the phrase "figuratively give you cancer" might come across as a bit insolent to a person who actually has cancer, or has a loved on with cancer.
Just sayin'.

Re: Contemporary threats to free speech

The law should be able to proscribe certain types of speech, but I can't think of any that might be used in the context of a care or health setting. HIPAA is kinda a big thing in healthcare in the US, to put it mildly. It's taken very seriously and violations can lead to civil penalties, criminal p...

Re: deadliest mass shooting in the U.S.

Not to diminish the recent suffering, but the deadliest mass shooting in the U.S. was the Wounded Knee Massacre . Yes, but that was perpetrated by the US Cavalry during a military operation. AFAIK the highest death toll from domestic terrorism occurred at the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995 https://e...

FYI - When I attempt to access the site this morning I get an "insecure site - invalid certificate" notice, and the color scheme is back to all blue.
I logged on last night with no security warning and the normal red/gold color.
