Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

We've come to this. I think the Founding Fathers would be appalled.

Re: Dumbbell Training

Weightlifting is one of my favorite exercises and sports. I do bench presses, leg lifts, arm curls. I don't look anything like bodom (I'm 55 yrs. old), but I'm in the top 0.1% according to some weightlifting tables for the amount I can lift in proportion, adjusted for body weight and age. ...

Re: Dumbbell Training

The quickest, most efficient way to lose weight is the old standby, diet + exercise. You need both. Nwad gave some good diet recommendations. Pay particular attention to cutting carbs and increasing protein. The best exercise is one that will increase your heart rate and keep it elevated for a minim...

Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

Yes of course I am a Buddhist .. I would spare no enemy who threatened the Dhamma .. that kind of Buddhist  The Dhamma is perfectly fine on its own. Violent retribution for those who do not agree with you is not a teaching of the Buddha. Is your cutesy little smile at the end of your post in...

Re: Do you have compassion for Nikolas Cruz?

Yes. He is obviously a very, very confused young man, ignorant and suffering just like all the beings in samsara.

What he did was wrong, no question, but that does not mean I should hate him.

Re: How to protect a country without building up a military?

[British Virgin Islands] Is this a separate country? What about Vatican? Yes, BVI is actually a British Overseas Territory. I was thinking of it more in terms of a place money hides. The Vatican is an ecclesiastical state, basically a theocracy. There are no passport controls to enter Vatican City,...

Re: How to protect a country without building up a military?

The best way I can think of is to be a very small country and have no resources the big guys want. Make your country attractive to the rich and famous, who will want to live there and can pay to have their peace and quiet. Monaco? Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Also Lichtenstein, Switze...

Re: How will you conceive the world in thirty years?

The basis of imputation known as "justsit" will be long gone. If "I" happen to obtain a precious human birth, I have no idea what the world will be like, but in any case I hope I don't make the same mistakes yet again. If not, please all of you be kind to insects, I may be one of them! Human nature ...

Re: Trump - One Year

When he views the parade I'd love the President to trick himself out in khaki or camouflage, if only to scare the beejeemees out of his critics. It's pretty sad that's the level we've sunk to, when scaring critics is important on the President's agenda. How are we ever going to actually work togeth...

Re: Trump - One Year

Now The Emperor wants a big military parade, on the taxpayers nickel. For what exactly? (rhetorical question, we know why).

What's next, he'll want his own salute? Maybe some new clothes?

Here's the question: Has Social Media done any good? I mean, besides letting me show beautiful beach photos? Yes, social media has done some good. It has been used to help families stay in contact, find missing persons, raise funds for good causes, publicize small but meaningful events that would o...

Does Theravada Buddhism get much goverment funding where you live guys? LOL where do they laugh at the idea? all buddhist and other religious organizations do in Norway, about 200-300$ per member or so. In US, church (ie, religion) and state are separate by law. There is no government funding for a...

Re: has the smartphone destroyed a generation

I don't think that the smartphone has destroyed a generation....it hasn't been in use long enough yet. In a few more years I think it is likely that the smartphone will have destroyed a generation....but then if you look at the life styles and attitudes of the bulk of humanity it seems obvious that...

Re: What is your contribution to make this world a better place?

Over the years I've come to realize that there are things I can control and things I cannot control. And even with the things I cannot control, I may have the ability to choose my response to them. At one point I made the decision to be a happy person. That doesn't mean I always feel happy, but when...

Re: has the smartphone destroyed a generation

Sounds about right. I'd be curious to see a graph from therapists on the rise of "social anxiety" since the smartphone was introduced. There's another online forum I frequent where 90%+ of the posters are women under the age of 45, and an alarmingly large number of them are reluctant to attend any t...
