Re: Asking for Help re: nutriment and sensual desire

I have similar issues. I'm trying to relax my mind as much as possible so I just don't think of food.

Re: Ignoring jury duty request

I just received a summons. I postponed my duty for a year. Personally I think I will basically follow davidbrainerds suggestion even if he was making fun. I wouldn't mind showing up at court for a day but I recoil at the thought of pronouncing someone guilty. Especially because the punishment will b...

opinions

Hi, i'm posting this here to see what people think of it. I posted it on Facebook as a reply to someone and was curious if people here had views on it. It deals with Trump - however, as is probably evident, i'm not concerned so much with Trump himself as with the nature of the views involved "if you...

Re: Real buddhist cannot take stress

I think this is an interesting topic. Are we to endure and investigate stress? Or simply are we allowed to put our attention elsewhere when we are stressed? Is anger about stress to be contemplated or ignored? Dukkha is to be known and its origin abandoned, but does that mean we engage with stress o...

tick and flea collar

my mother has asked me to pick up a tick and flea collar to prevent our dog from getting lymes disease. the ad says "kills and prevents" ticks and fleas. it's my character to just ignore such things. however if a tick attaches to me or my dog i do remove it (with tweezers). i'm probably going to jus...

what is that start up in thailand?

Bhante Gavesako mentioned a place that is a kind of halfway between lay life and the monastic life in Thailand bearing the word "metta" in its name.
i'm not sure im ready for that anyway as likely the living conditions are bare.

dhammaduta within the society

is such a thing possible? moreover by its nature can it be done deliberately? or must one simply relax and let it go?

the old format

i liked the old format for the website, this one is a little too technical. i liked the "open dhamma" section.

reflection on monk who "used the knife", Channovada sutta

i wondered why an arahant could not simply "fade out" if he wished to end life. he actually had to use a knife.

Collecting Eggs

Hi all,
I volunteer regularly at a farm and it is a good experience.
One task is to collect eggs from chickens and geese.
So far I have not had to do this but in the future I might.

To me it seems like bright and dark karma with bright and dark results. Thoughts?

Re: Torn between two worlds

hi, this is the exact phrasing my teacher warned me of when i first met him. he recommended that for someone who could be torn between worlds, it is good to experience a relaxed life (or even a successful lay life) before obsessing about dhamma, otherwise one could become a monk and still have curio...

Re: rebirth and evolution

I am watching this very good talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f70tKopDm_c and realized how to state my problem. Is our intelligence caused by previous karma or the result of our brain? Or am i missing the point...? By separating karma and the brain am i somehow creating two realities which aren...
