Re: Justify eating meat

There is nothing wrong with eating meat. Even the monks I speak to say that. It is best for you not to try to deflect onto others, I bet you take showers in warm water, drive to work/school, speak in a manner that is not mindful, engage in unwholesome thinking, and more. Pointing out the flaw in ot...

Concerning right living in a world of impulse.

Earlier this year I spent some time (3 days) on a meditation retreat at Bhavana Society (Where Bhante G. resides). Re: Any good books that could teach a beginning learner about Bu

If it's information on Buddhism you're looking for it is all available online, easily digestible. What you will get in various books are monks clarifications, usually, or in some books more studious versions of the same. To that end you must understand that the western mind tends towards specificity...

Restlessness and mental clock watching

Last night I was trying to follow Goldstein's Vipassana guided meditation and about 45 minutes into it I found myself getting just terribly restless and pondering the amount of time left, etc., It was almost like being bored, but being anxious at the same time. Any advice for dealing?

Re: Career in the military?

I suppose my advice on the matter comes from a relatively weak perspective as my own progress is kind of lacking. But I would suggest to you that if you're considering a career in the military you should deeply examine why it is you're looking at the military. Certainly a military career does not ex...

Re: DhammaWheel List on Twitter.

I don't twitter. The only reason I ended up on Facebook is because Ben invited me. I'm still not really sure what to do with it, but I play along and pretend like I do - sort of like I do in most meat space social situations. One of these days I'm going back to Urk-Glar where such things aren't nee...
