Re: the ethics of lay teachers who charge money

If you had achieved a stage of considering yourself having the ability to impart wisdom teaching of Buddhism, means one is able to live simply and moderately with ultimate joys of basic foods and simple shelter. There is no reason to charge for meditation lesson as this is inherent quality of all. T...

Re: A Question about Rebirth

I found this discussion of rebirth to be quite interesting: http://justalittledust.com/blog/?p=503 Any comments? Basically is the same as it touches on mental volitional that resulted into appearances of form and non form, and these form and non form also directly effecting the mental volitional th...

Re: What are we ?

i guess there are some threads on this now but i would appreciate if someone could explain it to me in a simple way - we are just a chain of actions (karma) that effect one another - or are we the "mindfulness" who watches the actions It is the false minds that set partitions :spy: that deters your...

http://www.press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/R/bo12274786.html Calhoun shows how much public recognition mattered to radical movements and how religious, cultural, and directly political—as well as economic—concerns motivated people to join up. Reflecting two decades of research into social...

Re: Buddha can't help

Buddha can't help is referring to enlightenment supreme per se. Buddha can only guide along this path, and if you would to explore the Infinite life sutra in the paradise world of inherent Amitabha, the surround help is remarkably indescribable. The attainment is still depend on individual. And prio...

Re: Anatta = not Atman or No-Self

Anatta = not Atman or No-Self Anatta is just like that, a tranquil state. The essence of tranquil state in arahat and Buddha is difference. Atman in hindu is a suppressing state of mind to an extremely degree of no eruption of emotions, and in this state of peace, it was presumed as Almighty state ...

Re: A Question about Rebirth

As I understand it, "orthodox" Threvada has it that the five khandhas disaggragate at the time of death of the body and more-or-less enter a "khandha pool" from which khandas come together togive existence to another life form. Am I right in this interpretation? If so, would I be correct to think t...

Basically, all theravada and Mahayana scripture were recorded by Ananda acknowledged by at least 500 Arahat then from the first sentence "Thus I Have Heard". If without record of scripture for people of the modern world, no one would enlighten unless extremely good karmic of the past lives such as Z...

Re: Suffering, revulsion, loathsomeness

I appreciate that I see these things arise in my mind, but do not see a need to hang on to them - or make them a special subject of contemplation. Perhaps these as contemplations are a sort of antidote to attachment to passing pleasure - to be used like medicine when necessary? Perhaps arising budd...

There is no such thing as feel of breath in chesty or abdominal. Anapanasati basically is applying concentration on one sense - breath so that all five other senses are closed. Practitioners of this method should apply breath focus in daily routine like meal time etc
