Re: Ordination - Thailand or Sri Lanka

This monk's view, while not shared by all, if any, is that you're more apt to get more 'instruction' reading, and putting to practice, the wealth of information available on the internet than in any temple in either Thailand, or Sri Lanka…wishing you well... I'd have to agree, there is a weird idea...

Re: Emptiness (suññatā) in the Pāḷi dhamma

since this thread has gone on to have nothing to do with the original post, I'm wondering if it would just be better for the OP to start a better worded post on the subject and let this one die.

Re: Buddho

Good work in finding that, Jcsuperstar! Wouldn't we all like to know where 'buddho' as a meditation object started? (Laughs) I have a *completely unfounded* hypothesis that it was a back influence from Chinese Mahayana Buddhism on Thai Buddhism. The practice of reciting 'buddho', especially using b...

Re: Definition Ajahn, Bhante, and Bhikkhu

I am wondering if it would be correct to address a monk as Bhikkhu, or is Bhante preferred. Thank you bhante is preferred if youre talking to him directly, also if you see my post above different countries refer to their monks differently, i.e. i attend Thai temples so i just refer to the monks as ...

Re: Thich Nhat Hanh: Dependant Co-arising & Inter-Being

you know i was gonna post that it reminds me of Huayan but didn't want to end up with my foot in my mouth if i turned out to be wrong about his influence... also was it Tsung-mi's influence on chan that brought in the huayan doctrines or was there more overlap?

Re: Natural-born Meditators?

well if you believe in literal rebirth... Bit of a shame this has become a safety qualifier for making any kind of statement about past lives in a discussion forum about Buddhism. Alas alas, back to the cushion. just doing what i can to not start any arguments with those who don't believe. :anjali:

Re: The Truths and the Myths about "God" in Buddhism!

I'm not so sure that's true bodom. there is no need for us to worship or pray to a god in order to follow the path to awakening or to experience nibbana, however the Buddha mentioned gods many times, and if our myths are true it was a god who convinced the Buddha to teach the path in the 1st place.

Re: Emptiness (suññatā) in the Pāḷi dhamma

There is much learning in conflict. And no one gets hurt here. really? history doesn't point to any thing ever being learned from conflict.... just more conflict. and the argument postshere just lead to longer and longer argument posts. also are you sure people never get hurt? or is it you just don...
