Re: the great rebirth debate

thanks! indeed, it seems he certainly said it. okay then, considering how many people actually even attempt to follow the precepts though this is not surprising. most people are quite fine with killing, lying, and using intoxicants. probably the vast majority of people break those precepts on a dai...

Re: the great rebirth debate

One question I will toss in and I wonder is, the Buddha states the beings residing in hell number in the grains of dirt on earth if compared to the beings on earth who number in a few grains. Similar analogies are used for animals who number in blades of grass and ghosts who number in the pieces of...

Re: Newtown Shootings

Good and evil dont look balanced, it doesn't look balanced to me because the Buddha has said human rebirth is rare.
But the bigger doubt causer is events like these! Those kids won't be able to hug their parents now, that pain from longing by those parents!

Pray for everyone. Goodnight.

Re: Is hell and hungry ghost realm to be taken literally?

I feel a lot of compassion for beings in hell if there was a place, the torture wouldn't hurt as much as the boredom of being there for a 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000..... years. I feel strong fury whenever i see someone hurt anyone in this world. If I were to encounte...

Re: Is hell and hungry ghost realm to be taken literally?

I most definitely am still questioning the unimaginable length described(10^999...... years), and see the length as a better discussion and the nature of such realms, rather than whether there is a realm or not!

Re: Compassion and i am.

I also wonder why I chose to post in this forum and not dharmawheel, I know so little and what theravada or mahayana is or why I need to choose between the two or which one is right. I need to empty my cup, what to do next.

Re: Is hell and hungry ghost realm to be taken literally?

I can imagine other realms that have more pain than this, there probably is a hell and hungry ghost realm of sorts, what I would be asking myself is if they were to last as long as described; they are described with huge numbers found in Southern Asian religions( 10^999.... ) I would ideally think t...

Compassion and i am.

I feel compassion, and a sort of zealousness when I see callousness to all beings, especially lower ones. I then thought of the distracting questions including why are animals one realm? If hell exists what could we do for those in such pain? (Tibetan Buddhism allows prayers and offerings to help th...
