Re: Is it possible to 'leave' Nirvana?

When you practise well your unskillful volitions and actions V(x) gradually decrease until finally they drop below enlightenment level E and your mind achieves nirvana: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/Potential_energy_well.svg/535px-Potential_energy_well.svg.png http://uploa...

Re: Nibbana is the unconditioned dhamma, or is not a dhamma?

There is , monks, an unborn [1] — unbecome — unmade — unfabricated. If there were not that unborn — unbecome — unmade — unfabricated, there would not be the case that escape from the born — become — made — fabricated would be discerned. But precisely because there is an unborn — unbecome — unmade —...

Part and section, if possible. It belongs here, between paragraphs 1 and 2, but it's classified stuff, not visible for everyone: http://www.bps.lk/olib/wh/wh067-u.html#TheBlessedOnersquosFinalExhortation" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; 1. Now the Blessed One spoke to the Ve...

Re: “Skillful Means” and the rhetoric of Mahāyāna proselytism

Ānanda, in the future, if the bhikkhus can't handle anatta, teach them about buddha nature. If the bhikkhus become obsessed with dhamma analysis, teach them emptiness. If the bhikkhus cherish scriptures instead of practise, teach them about a special transmission outside the scriptures. If the bhik...

Re: Citta, Brahma, and Thai Forest interpretations

To sum up, then, our discussion here of the terms citta and manas has shown that both are frequently used in a generic non-technical sense of 'mind' in general. Both are also associated in general terms with the activity of the mind, and this is primarily the thinking which originates in volitions....

Re: Citta, Brahma, and Thai Forest interpretations

And how is that different from Atman? I'm not sure if the Glossary definitions are by Ajahn Maha Boowa, and I don't think his talks are very good or maybe even 'correct' in coherent buddhist scholarly stuff, but anyways, if you give a label to some process or state without greed, hatred and delusio...

Re: Citta, Brahma, and Thai Forest interpretations

Maha Boowa's explanation of the 'original mind' is also quite interesting: "Straight from the Heart" ebook, talk "The Radiant Mind Is Unawareness": The ‘original mind’ means the original mind of the round in which the mind finds itself spinning around and about, as in the Buddha’...

Re: Citta, Brahma, and Thai Forest interpretations

There's plenty of Ajahn Maha Boowa's citta teachings translated in this book: http://www.forestdhamma.org/ebooks/english/pdf/Straight_from_the_Heart.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Some quotes: "The Radiant Citta Is Avijja": Thus nothing should be taken for gra...

Re: Difference between Citta and Brahma?

I want to teach Dhamma myself one day because of what it has done for me in my life so far, so i need to get it right 100% so I don't spread muck around so to speak. There's only one way to get it right 100%. Supatipanno Bhagavato Savakasangho ...and then investigate again. It's not a sure thing.

Re: Karma, Rebirth and Animals

Perhaps most animals just act like animals and will be reborn at the same level again and again? Because that's the level closest to their 'minds' during their livetimes? Does Buddhist theory allow for animal being born into the body of a man? Yes, that’s quite possible. Especially if the animal has...

Re: The invisible world is the world of perception?

Yes, with possible extra dimensions or universes there's even more abiding-places for devas and demons beyond the reach of current scientific instruments.

Re: The invisible world is the world of perception?

In reality there are three 'worlds', but two of them are invisible to normal perception and direct measurement and belong to what science calls 'dark matter' and 'dark energy'. That's where all the various hells and heavens are, but you need the right instrument to see it, ie the purified concentrat...

Re: meditation and supressed thoughts

I believe it's also helpful to build a positive foundation by practising generosity, keeping the five precepts and trying to do everything as well as you can during the day. Then reflect on those before meditation, it brings gladness to your mind. After that I also do some metta meditation for mysel...
