Re: One reason why people might deny self
ok, i see Just a correction. Taking the Noble Eightfold Path or Nibbana with craving is called the right view with the affluent. (Lokiya Samma Ditthi) Bhante Dhammanando or someone else can clarify this for us. Craving here means Atta Upadana. Is this something to do with the OP? what do you mean b...

Re: Worldly Right view with affluent?
But Brahama Jala Sutta Buddha talks about recluses who attain Jhana. So? Jhana in and of itself is not something exclusive to just Buddha's disciples. The Buddha before discovering His Dhamma already learned and attained high-level Jhanas from His outsider-teachers. Agree. So why can't we tell thos...

Re: Worldly Right view with affluent?
Do we find any of the views in Brahmajala Sutta as the worldly right view with affluent? If not why? They're wrong views as per Maurice Walsh's note on DN1: Brahmajāla Sutta: The Supreme Net (What the Teaching is Not). The monks observe the wanderer Suppiya arguing with his pupil about the merits o...

Worldly Right view with effluent?
Do we find any of the views in Brahmajala Sutta as the worldly right view with effluent? If not why? https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/dn/dn.01.0.bodh.html "And what is right view? Right view, I tell you, is of two sorts: There is right view with effluents, siding with merit, resulting i...

Re: Patisambhidamagga specifically anapanasati
Problem 1 Mindfulness is both the establishment (foundation) and the mindfulness. Why is mindfulness the foundation or establishment? This is what I am not clear about. I get that mindfulness is the priority but maybe foundation is an unclear translation. Without keeping mindfulness in mind, how ca...

Re: What is this knowledge for?
Agree. Maybe many billions of humans have some religion. Religion must be bringing some happiness to them. Even if religion is based on ignorance it brings happiness at least short term. Not sure about that. Just like the knife analogy mentioned before , whether religion brings happiness or sufferi...

Re: What is this knowledge for?
The knowledge is for: Short term: to gain happiness; long term: to attain Nibbana. It is fruitful by just knowing even one topic in this Sasana. Like the case of āyasmā Tisaraṇagamaniyo Thero. Knowing the value of Tisarana (the three refuges), a man took refuge in the Buddha, Dhamma, and Sangha. He...

Re: I encourage you to practice 8 precepts
:goodpost: However, I suggest at least try one whole day not half a day. Indeed. Otherwise you could be abstaining from eating at the wrong time exclusively at the right time, and abstaining from sexual intercourse except when you're in bed with your wife. Thanks. You got the point.

Re: What is this knowledge for?
Further considering my question I wondered whether the knowledge is to increase Saddha.
Normally we read the contract or get a solicitor to check it before we sign it.
Perhaps a deeper investigation of Dhamma may increase your faith.
