Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

I was getting annoyed at some these questions No need to. Don't take anything as a self. Teachers should have patience. ======= Any action, whether meritorious or harmful, and whether of body, speech or mind, creates karmic imprint on a being.[49] This includes will (cetana) and planning.[49] It le...

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

Is cakkhu vinnana a patisandhi vinnana?
What I am saying is Vinnana is the generic term.
Dependent Origination when it says Vinnana it means Patisandi Vinnana which is defiled.
Vinnana of living Arahant is not defiled hence it is not Patisandi Vinnana.

Re: 4 Tetrads, 4 Foundations, 4 Jhanas?

the Anapanasati sutta MN 118 itself confirms that each tetrad and its four steps is intended to develop one of the four foundations:
Good point Paul. It is worthwhile discussion this point in detail.
Does this mean Kayanupassana (body contemplation) only is sufficed for the release?

Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero

Can you answer me regarding the six-sense vinnanas and the vinnana aggregate? According to you, are those still present after the uprooting of the defilements but before the break-up of the body? If so, vinnana cannot be defined as "defiled consciousness". Good point. Ven. Narda said in his book Vi...

Re: Theravadin Monks, lay community and depression

Regardless, perfect morality does not guarantee spiritual freedom. This is why monks following impeccable Vinaya for 40 years end up disrobing for love (sex). I think a disposition for Nibbana must exist and that individuals with too high genetic sexual/reproductive/self instincts won't make it. Go...

Just to recap the main thing what I learn here was the differentiation of (i) physical body kaya; (ii) breath ...

Agree.
The problem is they start with the wrong footing.

What is the reason for mental illness among Western monks?
Are generally Western people suffer from mental illness or they become mentally ill after joining the order?

However, a monk can use the saving forest as a theme or springboard to teach Dhamma.
And if you go back to the Thai and Lao examples Paul posted, you will see that they are doing exactly that.

Re: sankappa equivalent with vitakka or not?

Can you point me to the passages where sankappa is not thinking, but something prior to thinking, "resolves" or "intention"? See the terms rūpa-saṅkappa ... dhamma-saṅkappa in the SN's Dhātusaṃyutta. Also there's the Vinaya's definition of cittasaṅkappa in connection with the third pārājika rule: R...
