Re: Why Dhammawheel is not growing?

I did another quick assessment of the progress of DW.
Now it is averaging 2.79% ie (350/12543*100) users online compares to 2.27% last year.
This is a good indication that DW is growing at a steady pace.
Congratulation to all admin staff not to mention the regular users and contributors.

Re: SN 16.13 Saddhammapatirūpaka Sutta. The Counterfeit of the True Dhamma.

Ajahn Thanissaro's notes show why this is not so easy,
It is strange Ven Thanissaro saying this.
Some people think that his teaching Nibbana as another consciousness seems the counterfeit of the true Dhamma.

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

Buddha never said which came first, consciousness or the rupa. Only thing what Buddha said was, "It is as if two sheaves of reeds were to stand leaning against one another. In the same way, from name-&-form as a requisite condition comes consciousness, from consciousness as a requisite condition com...

Re: Sixteen insight knowledges and seven purifications appear in every word of tipitaka

When we recited and memorized pāli, we will see the relativity between words, meaning, sutta, section, nikāya, pitaka, antedate&
predate cannons.
Unfortunately, when we study Sutta translation in other languages we lose this valuable connection.

What it means by that the mind reside in the cave?

What it means by that the mind reside in the cave? Dūraṅgamaṃ ekacaraṃ, asarīraṃ guhāsayaṃ; Ye cittaṃ saṃyamissanti, mokkhanti mārabandhanā. Dwelling in the cave, the mind, without form, wanders far and alone. Those who subdue this mind are liberated from the bonds of Mara. https://www.accesstoinsig...

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

It is important to note that Buddha never said that mind reside in brain.
Intellect is not the brain or the hart as the popular belief in India in Buddha's time.
It is important to note that all beings do not have a hart.

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

Say for instance someone has dementia and forgets they are Buddhist. How does it work then? The chemistry in brain affects your intelligence, moods, behaviours, etc. Golly I'm confused
Is this similar to a question what will happen to an Arahant while s/he is in sleep?

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

I wonder anybody (other monks) are allowed to question him. Yes, all the time. At tea-time at Bodhinyana Monastery, he and all the monks have good discussions, and often some of the monks disagree with Ajahn Brahm. Even the junior monks or novices are allowed to tell him they think he is wrong, and...

Re: Sixteen insight knowledges and seven purifications appear in every word of tipitaka

When you use that pāli (and it's practical pāli) to search in tipitaka the 16 ñāṇa and 7 viduddhi will appear in every word of tipitaka.
:twothumbsup:

I am glad you came up with this.

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

Yes, I've never been able to understand how the mind is separate from the brain. Is anyone able to explain this in plain English for me? There is a state of consciousness named Infinity of consciousness. This is an extension of the fourth Jhana. Some people argue that people who are borne to this f...

Re: Can you practice Brahma Vihara in second Jhana?

Thanks LG. those high stages of mental concentration called jhana Very interesting. So Jhana can be attained in many different ways. while the meditation on equanimity will lead to the fourth jhana only, in which equanimity is the most significant factor. This is even more interesting. It appears yo...

Re: Ajahn Brahm Responds To "Secular Mindfulness"

Ajahn Brahm's view that mind is independent of brain is obviously not something totally Buddhist since certain suttas appear to refute AB's view. I agree. The consciousness arises depend on conditions. I wonder anybody (other monks) are allowed to question him. Following is the Sutta support. In de...

There is no need to have Vitakka and Vicara in second Jhana because the heart is saturated with love. :heart:
So then what happens in the third Jhana?

Re: Can you practice Brahma Vihara in second Jhana?

Hi DD
Yes, I agree.
My question is how he tries to mary four Jhana with Brahmavihara.
How do you practice Brhama Vihara if you do not have Vitakka and Vicar in sencond Jhana.

In this video.
Metta =1st Jhana
Karuna = 2nd Jhana
Muditha = 3rd Jhana
Upekkha = 4th Jhana

My understanding is you are free to discuss those issues provided you do not mention peoples names.
I wonder these sort of post you end up with getting a defamation action from someone unless you are talking about public figures.
I am not fully conversant of defamation laws.

Re: Loneliness

Hi Kim
Is there a lonely people association?
Considering the development of communication it is hard to believe there are so many lonely people.
