Re: discourses nowhere define "virtues dear to the noble ones" or do they?

I'm wondering if people here are thinking that "noble ones" means those who are arahants or if they are thinking that "noble ones" means the four pairs (one pair each for stream entry, once returner, non-returner, and arahant?

Re: Four Noble Truths as a list of landmarks.

I don't see it just the way you describe it but if what you are describing is how you understand it then I suggest following it with an open mind and finding out for yourself if it provides a path forward for you.

Re: Monks and following rules

Re: Why it is called self becomed ?

I'm not sure but I think that this is not from the tipitaka....it seems to be some legend....so its importance is perhaps somewhat limited.....I imagine though that they are referring to the fact that the buddha discovered the dhamma by himself while the rest of us have learned it from someone.....n...

Re: Dependant Arising - 2nd Link

In my previous post I said: I want to afirm that bodily pain is also a concern but I think that it can be seen (as I tried to show in my posting here and in the other thread) that the bodily pain aspect of death is for most people not a major concern although bodily pain is always a concern....so mu...

I'm sure part of it is the mental anguish associated with the thought of extinction. Though I suspect it goes deeper than this, as much biology as psychology: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-preservation The wikipedia article is really weak. It mostly talks about organisms in general and what it...

I haven't got a clue as to what sillybatho'parmesan is or what it does but it sure does sound silly. As to the topic which is whether buddhism is radically different from other religions it probably depends on each persons particular views about buddhism and other religions.....don't you think?
