Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

You see , either mind is also a kind of matter and conscious of itself and other phenomena . Or mind is non matter and totally different from matter . I don't think that anyone is trying to say that mind is matter. Even those who are of the view that mind arises in the brain do not think that the b...

Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

Well , where is the mind you are talking about ? The mind I am talking about is the mind you suggest when you said, "Why mind is capable of conscious of it self and others and matter cannot ?!" You talk about some kind of mind which is conscious of itself...but it has no self to be conscious of! ch...

Re: Value of interfaith studies

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that the Buddha himself was versed in other doctrines - which is of course undoubtedly true. I think it's also true that his own doctrine is nonsensical without the broader Vedic and Upanishadic context of his times (and this implies critique of those systems...

Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

Greetings , According to sutta , the sixth consciousness arises from the contact of the mind which is the sixth sense base versus mental objects . Therefore , what would you think is the sixth sense base ? Would you think the sixth sense base is of matter or non matter ? To clarify this question I ...

If vipassana is not the way to enlightenment is it the way to the hell realms? I don't think that there is any one word that is the name for the way to enlightenment. IF there was such a thing with a word for its name then I'm sure that the budddha would have known it and taught about it directly. c...

Re: Artificial intelligence produces social conditions benefiting Buddhism:

Redundancy and the social consequences you mention may well occur, but I was thinking more about the changes in our ways of thinking that AI brings. Rather like the development of autonomy, individualism, ethical worth, and responsibility which preceded the Buddha. I don't see how AI would help in ...

Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

It seems that the contents of dreams strongly correlate to events in the brain. It seems that the arising of memory of things i...

Re: Loved this ❤️

Is the 7 day rule generally accepted by senior monastics? There is no 7 day rule. Your question presupposes a 7 day rule. There is no 7 day rule mentioned in the suttas or anywhere else that I have seen in theravada literature. A better way to enquire about this is to ask "do senior monastics belie...
