Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

Conventionally , we have to refer something with names otherwise we couldn't continue with our conversation . With the eyes there is a seeing , and that doesn't mean there is a self in it . You didn't give any definite answer . We are not talking about the brain as the mind . But , what being the b...

Re: Hillary gave Away all our Uranium!

There are a lot of "innocent" people who have committed dangerous crimes roaming free under this adage. Not just an adage. Presumption of Innocence https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presumption_of_innocence an excerpt: In many states, presumption of innocence is a legal right of the accused in a crimin...

Re: teaching to monastics vs lay people

A good teacher spends alot of effort understanding students. Different students learn best in different ways. A good teacher tailors their lessons to the learning style of the student. Monks are different from lay people although there is alot of overlap. A monk is much more likely to benefit from a...

Re: Americans will never give up their guns.

I think the problem aren't guns, legal or illegal, many or few, easy or hard to obtain. In what country are guns most widely legal and the easiest to obtains with a population which has enough discretionary income so that rich and poor people can purchase one? In what country is the death by gun sh...

Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

You see , either mind is also a kind of matter and conscious of itself and other phenomena . Or mind is non matter and totally different from matter . I don't think that anyone is trying to say that mind is matter. Even those who are of the view that mind arises in the brain do not think that the b...

Re: What is the sixth sense base ?

Well , where is the mind you are talking about ? The mind I am talking about is the mind you suggest when you said, "Why mind is capable of conscious of it self and others and matter cannot ?!" You talk about some kind of mind which is conscious of itself...but it has no self to be conscious of! ch...

Re: Value of interfaith studies

Someone earlier in the thread mentioned that the Buddha himself was versed in other doctrines - which is of course undoubtedly true. I think it's also true that his own doctrine is nonsensical without the broader Vedic and Upanishadic context of his times (and this implies critique of those systems...

If vipassana is not the way to enlightenment is it the way to the hell realms? I don't think that there is any one word that is the name for the way to enlightenment. IF there was such a thing with a word for its name then I'm sure that the budddha would have known it and taught about it directly. c...

Redundancy and the social consequences you mention may well occur, but I was thinking more about the changes in our ways of thinking that AI brings. Rather like the development of autonomy, individualism, ethical worth, and responsibility which preceded the Buddha. I don't see how AI would help in ...
