Re: HH Dalai Lama

If I remember correctly there is a sutta where it is explained that each of the six sense doors all except the mind are incapable of knowing of sensing what the others do. I think this sutta might show the way that the buddha referred to the five....was the term "sense door" or something similar use...

In other words, are things exist?
It would be the height of arrogance and egocentricity to assume that the universe and all it's contents depends on you or me for it's existence. :stirthepot:
Yep, that would be the delusional self in action.....arrogant, egocentric.....

Re: Compassion fatigue

If you feel fatigued from trying to be compassionate then you should study the suttas with the aim to learn about what the buddha meant by compassion because what you are doing is not what the buddha talked about.

no one has the authority to murder under no circumstances should you murder fools assume they have the authority to murder, under "right" circumstances Only fools think that there is "authority" to do anything. This desperado might just as well be talking about "authority" instead of "badges". http...

Re: Reading a PDF book online

Then it seems ok to me. It is freely available to the world via the internet by actions of the university. You could go research the university's policy on this sort of thing....but I wouldn't. Do be aware that I am not a strong believer in the sanctity of intellectual property. I have no doubt tran...

Re: Reading a PDF book online

It seems like the link to the book was freely given by the university....I guess the onus is on the university. Did they provides some kind of restrictions on the use of that link?

Re: What is the contact? Can we experience the contact?

I think contact is non-physical. (Nama) This is progress. Your original question: Is contact bodily or mental? ...so...to the extent that one thinks that "bodily" means "physical" you think that contact is not bodily.....but what do you think if someone thinks that "bodily" is taken to be relative ...

The first step is to notice when you're labeling them as ignorant brutes.
INdeed it is....because at the moment you label is the moment when the passions which prompt that labeling are present and thus directly observable.

Thanks for reminding us of the first step.

I'm really not sure what you're trying to argue. If you don't understand then don't worry about it.....I'm not trying to convince you or anyone else about how to interpret this stuff......but there is no need to resort to name calling (like sarcasm) just because you don't understand a point of view...

Re: What is the contact? Can we experience the contact?

The question is if we don't have the feeling and perception how do we know there is contact? Are you of the view that eye consciousness is NOT conjoined with feeling and perception?....because if they are conjoined then it seems that a logical definition of "contact" might be "the arising of consci...

Re: What is the contact? Can we experience the contact?

I thought contact involved consciousness, one of the six sense bases and an object. It does and that was what I was trying to say. When I said: Since contact is dependent on consciousness then it seems that it is not possible to delineate the difference among contact, feeling, and perception.....I ...
