Re: Dependant Arising - 2nd Link

I'm sure part of it is the mental anguish associated with the thought of extinction. Though I suspect it goes deeper than this, as much biology as psychology: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-preservation The wikipedia article is really weak. It mostly talks about organisms in general and what it...

Re: Buddhism is radically diffrent from other relegions is a wishful thnking?

I haven't got a clue as to what sillybatho'parmesan is or what it does but it sure does sound silly. As to the topic which is whether buddhism is radically different from other religions it probably depends on each persons particular views about buddhism and other religions.....don't you think? The ...

Re: Dependant Arising - 2nd Link

I think it would be good if you explained what you personally see as being the suffering which comes about through death. I'm sure part of it is the mental anguish associated with the thought of extinction. Though I suspect it goes deeper than this, as much biology as psychology: https://en.wikiped...

Re: Rebirth is suffering ! So is death !

I'm not wanting to put words in your mouth but if one sees pain as being the only suffering associated with death then as long as one could be assured of a painless death then death at any time would be a non-issue.....death tomorrow?....sure....why not.....not a problem....I don't care. Is this ho...

Maybe you can explain to me if say you are very ill sort like cancer and you are aching to the extreme , and what do you think if you are suffering then or maybe not , just mentally suffering ? Are you saying that you think that death is suffering because it is painful?....and for no other reason? ...

Re: Dependant Arising - 2nd Link

From SN12.2 ( repeated in MN9 ): "Now what is aging and death? Whatever aging, decrepitude, brokenness, graying, wrinkling, decline of life-force, weakening of the faculties of the various beings in this or that group of beings, that is called aging. Whatever deceasing, passing away, breaking up, d...

From the wikipedia article on Thích Quảng Đức: Precedents and influence[edit] [*] Despite the shock of the Western public, the practice of Vietnamese monks self-immolating was not unprecedented. Instances of self-immolations in Vietnam had been recorded for centuries, usually carried out to honor Ga...

Re: Meaning of Intention, Negligence, "Cause"

Well, I would certainly appreciate the opportunity to amend my understanding if it contains inconsistencies. But if, after claiming that there are inconsistencies, you are unable to point them out, then I appreciate that reticence on your part might be the better course. I could say alot but I thin...

It seems to me that your views expressed here are not consistent with your previous statement that intention is wanting a particular outcome.

Re: Dependant Arising - 2nd Link

Some argue that interpretation, but I don't think it is well supported by the nidana "definitions" in SN12.2 and MN9. When you read those nidana descriptions there is actually quite a lot of form or "physicality" involved, so DO seems to describe a psycho-physical process rather than a purely menta...
