Re: Children and parents

There is a cultural component to parental love but then again there is a hormonal component of maternal love.

Re: Re-birth is like having your own baby (child)

Your child is someone else. I think this is Attaditthi. I may be wrong though. I think that attaditthi is a belief or view. If upon reading "your child is someone else" the view of attaditthi arises then it has arisen. If upon reading "your child is someone else" some other view arises then some ot...

Re: Which view on DO resonates with you the most?

My opinion is that DO has nothing to do with 1-2-3 lives or moment-to-moment-ness. It just shows generally how and why suffering exists, without any kind of precise details. Key to such opinion is Upanisa sutta: :goodpost: A good quote from the upanisa sutta too but no need to reproduce it as it is...

Re: What is wrong with Sati's pernicious viewpoint?

I've got a square peg and a round hole....how do you reconcile a square peg in a round hole? Sorry. I could not get what you say. Sorry for not being more clear. My post was in response to your saying, "My question is how do you incorporate Kamma and rebirth to this formula." My reply means that 1....

Re: Next 24 hours are super important (huge tensions regarding Syria)

Greetings, I guess then this is a fore warning about what is likely to happen in north korea? chownah No, it's the same approach, but the leaders of North Korea and Syria responded differently. North Korea pushed the boundaries, but did not over-step them. You may not know this, but Trump actually ...

Re: What is Facebook?

Why we, as human beings, have this neurotic need to tell the whole world about the trivia of our lives? Because it's not actually trivial at all. From what I've seen it mostly is trivial. Trivial or not, it seems very obvious to me that it is clinging to identity. I can't really see much of a use f...

Re: What is wrong with Sati's pernicious viewpoint?

I've got a square peg and a round hole....how do you reconcile a square peg in a round hole? Answer 1: you don't. Answer 2: you fabricate once, fabricate twice, then fabricate once again and then your self/object duality producing function comes up with something which satisfies your self/object dua...

Re: Sakkāya-ditthi: view that sees distinct mind and matter?

I send a message to Wisdom and the editor of he book (Kate Wheeler) replied saying that indeed the definition of sakkaya-ditthi as quoted in he OP was an error in the book. Indeed sa kaya ditthi is the wrong view of mind and matter: that they are one thing and owned by oneself. Good work Ruud! Your...

Re: Race, IQ and Idenity politics: A debate.

12 This is a question base on mathematical notion and exposure/familiarity/understanding of mathematical notation is a cultural variable so you have in fact shown that this sort of test is culturally dependent....you have proven lyndon taylor's point. chownah If drawn it will look sort of like this...

Re: Race, IQ and Idenity politics: A debate.

Total nonsense, IQ tests are culture dependent and favour the race and class of the people that made the IQ test, being a good farmer requires high IQ, but that doesn't mean someone raised in a farming community in the third world is going to score high on a test designed and administered by city d...
