Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
Explain me for example how can a belief (in the case of placebo) - a simple belief can modify matter ? Or how can consciousness been put on something can dramatically modify how matter behaves, such as in the case of the observer problem ? I mean these are things that simply can not be explained wi...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
The view that consciousness exists because of matter was simply proven wrong by science. It is a dogmatic belief based on intuition. If this idea would not have been proven wrong already, you could argue that it is possible for consciousness to come from matter and we might discover in the future t...

Re: Poll: Belief in rebirth
I voted "other", so here's my explanation, of sorts: I considered voting "I still doubt the reality of rebirth, to a greater or lesser degree, but I am keeping an open mind", but I decided that I couldn't. I always have a mind open to new, valid evidence. I don't like the phrase ...

Hello hello
So, I was actually here very briefly about 4 years ago, but I never got particular active. In the intervening years, my practice had fluctuated with the waves of life, but its influence has always been there. I've done lots of reading and listened to many talks. I've reminded myself to be present in...

Re: Good cushion
I have been using a firm reading pillow lying on it's back, which has worked okay. I can't find them that firm anymore and the filler in the area I sit is getting irreparably compressed, so I am actually awaiting the arrival of a Cosmic Cushion / Zabuton set. It has a built in angle to help rotate y...

Re: Vipassana Beginners Questions
tnkasthuri, I know that this thread is a few months old, but just in case you are still looking, I recommend "Mindfulness in Plain English" by Bhante G. The entire book focuses on Vipassana and it is very readable and informative. Here's a link where you get it in multiple formats. http://...

Re: SN 45.165: Dukkhata Sutta — Suffering
What is dart(s)? It's a reference to the Arrow Sutta, here is a brief extract: "Now, the well-instructed disciple of the noble ones, when touched with a feeling of pain, does not sorrow, grieve, or lament, does not beat his breast or become distraught. So he feels one pain: physical, but not m...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
Hello All, I wanted to post here as I still persevere through the challenge of setting the foundation of my practice. My present goal is to sit for at least 30 minutes per day. I have accomplished this some after several days at 15 minutes then worked up to 30. I still let life and tiredness keep my...

Re: How to deal with "pest"/insects in your home?
Yes I do. Thanks! Gnats are difficult to keep out because if their size. I really don't get house flies inside very often. I'm pretty diligent on the prevention front.
Be well!

Re: How to deal with "pest"/insects in your home?
I was very glad to see this topic. This is one area that I struggle with finding balance in. I have committed to trying to minimize harming insects that find their ways into my home. I try to capture them and return them outdoors as often as possible. My biggest current problem that I struggle with ...

Tapatalk for Mobile (Free Add-on for Forum Mobile Access)
I don't want to be presumptuous with my first post introductory post being a suggestion, but as a frequent mobile web browser and forum participant, I would just like to ask if there is any possibility of adding Tapatalk capability to the Dhamma Wheel for better mobile functionality. As I understand...
