Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

After 134 days I just looked at some porn :( Now I'm worried that I might have downloaded a computer virus! So back to Day 1 I guess. With metta and apologies / dhammapal. A sexually transmitted disease!? But I had Google SafeSearch on! :jumping: Seriously though I am feeling guilty about increasin...

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

There is this sutta, can't remember which at present, where the Buddha is quoted as having said, that before (attainment (or regular practice?) of jhana, he was still able to be tempted by lust, but that once he had jhana, he could no longer be tempted by lust. I have read in a few places that the ...

Re: Similarities of Mahayana and theravada

My intention was to try to bring peace between these 2 ranches of Buddhism. Guess it failed . Mod please close this topic. It's pointless to discuss this anymore. A lot of you are now Criticising the mahayahanist hence it makes things worse.

Re: Reunify the Buddhism, is there any way?

There is no need to reunify it. It is already unified . The best thing we should do is respect the other divisions , do not be a smart-ass and try to question and criticize the other divisions. Your intention was good, but this would lead to divisions questioning each others differences, like in the...

Re: Similarities of Mahayana and theravada

Let's forget about the differences shall we :)? Just to be simple, I think they share rather similar goals and of course their teacher: the Buddha. It is not that they (the teachings) would share goals but the people clinging to those teachings share a common goal: To overcome the dilemma of being ...

Re: Cloud Atlas - epic film about karma and reincarnation

The directors say that when they approached the big movie-making companies in Hollywood, nobody was interested in financing such a strange film which did not fit the usual category of block-busters that bring a lot of profit to them. So the directors had to seek private funding in order to make the...

Re: Similarities of Mahayana and theravada

It's not really accurate to juxtapose Mahayana and Theravada, is it? Suppose we juxtaposed Yogacara and Theravada, for example - this seems much more likely to yield fruit, though whether such fruit looks like an interfaith effort or ecumenism is up in the air... Yeah but I am just trying to unite ...

Re: Porn Free for 90 Days

The buddha told us that we should not beleive in anything, and a person can reach the nirvana state of mind without even reading a single scripture iun his life, but practices dhamma and buddhist teachings along the way without knowing it, they are people like that, and i know a few of them too. Re: Is mahayana Buddism?

Yes it is, instead of questioning other branches of buddhism, as i am a Mahayanist as well as partly a Theravadist too, but i dont see why not? Its still buddhism aint it. They follow similiar teaching, the aim is the same , to achieve nirvana.
