Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

the op does not deal with that, as the situation as presented only indicates a discussion has been had between the two. That is up to those involved to consider. There are obviously potentially three people involved here, rather than two, unless they discussed the following: And again up to the cou...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

no, however that argument doesn't negate the situation being put forward. One where the conversation could easily have been brought up by the wife. This appears to still not change the lack of consideration about who & what will this other woman be and the consequences upon her. You seem to have th...

Re: Contemporary threats to free speech

I believe the alphie Evans situation involved threats of violence not just someone being called a name because they happened to work at the hospital and may or may not have been involved in the care of Alphie. I do not agree with threatening staff of the hospital. And, I also do not believe that all...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

lay people (what this thread is about) are part of the world... The term "the world" has different meanings. For example, just because sexual promiscuity, pedophilia or lying is practised by "the world" does not mean lay Buddhists should practise promiscuity, pedophilia or lying. no, however that a...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

Oh i am pretty sure this is a fact. I'm pretty sure what I wrote is also fact, namely, the ways of Dhamma are not the same as the ways of the world (Mara). lay people (what this thread is about) are part of the world, and this issue is relevant to a precept that deals with how a layperson should ac...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

being prohibited by law. I find this term is tricky, what does women who are "protected by law" mean? If the local laws prohibiting your sexual behavior, for example, no sexual intercourse outside marriage but you do it, does it mean you have sexual intercourse with those who are "protected by law"...

Re: Sexual intercourse with other woman with the consent of wife

Hi Steve. There are a couple of angles one can look at this from within the texts so I will deal with them. Acording to the wording of the precept and other textual explanations of the precept the situation is not a breach even without her permission. Although if the situation was reversed it would ...

Re: Sattva/Louise

Thanks everyone. I left this site quite awhile ago and I actually don't spend as much time online. I even got rid of my Facebook account. Health wise, I have had so many health issues and surgeries over the last few years, including one in September, one in October, and one in November. I almost di...

The right wing posters never see a problem with the moderation.....
Firstly I'm not right wing.
Secondly you haven't spelt out any actual issues.

Re: What's the appeal of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

because defending a right need not do more about the opinion than show how it is covered by the right to express it. an atterney need not be a pedophile to defend someone who is accused of pedaphilia. Some people interpret it that way, though. Guilty by association. doesnt make the attourney guilty...

Re: What's the appeal of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

It is defending the right to hold and express views, it isn't a defence of a particular view. In practice, how is there a difference between the two? because defending a right need not do more about the opinion than show how it is covered by the right to express it. an atterney need not be a pedoph...

Re: What's the appeal of "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"?

Well, it seems silly, to say the least. To be willing to die so that another person can say whatever they want??! This seems far more how things really are: http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2005/11/28/2911leunig_wideweb__470x310,2.jpg It is defending the right to hold and express views, it isn't a de...

Hi binocular But what is the appeal of saying "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"? Why would anyone say such a thing?? if you know the original context of the saying itself should give you a better understanding. or at least why it has been used to exp...

Re: If you are not guilty, you don't act like a guilty person, right?

All of that is made-up nonsense, designed to fool the fools. There are no facts behind this obvious nonsense. Yet, some of those who live in a right-wing bubble of disinformation continue to believe it. I expect more intelligence and awareness from my Buddhist friends. So what exactly is the disinf...
