Re: Where is the line between Buddhism and Dhamma?

I would go further and say we need to ensure Buddhism doesn't corrupt the Dhamma.

Why are the 5 hindrances & 7 factors of enlightenment paired?
Although Ignorance has no discernible beginning, the five hindrances are the nutriment for ignorance. Cultivation of the seven enlightenment factors are the way to abolish ignorance.

Re: Is hatred always bad, if you hate what should be hated?

It's not unskilful to oppose someone who is draconian, divisive and morally vacuous, out of concern and care for ourselves and others. This is rooted in compassion and concern. Yes, speaking up and acting is actually OK, when faced with dangerous individuals and situations. However, it is unskilful ...

Re: Dhamma and Abortion

I recall that Bhikkhu Bodhi believes that there is reasonably strong evidence in the Suttas to suggest an in between state. Unfortunately I don't remember which Sutta(s) he was referring to as it was some time ago, but I am fairly sure he mentioned this point twice in his talks on the Majjhima Nika...

Re: Dhamma and Abortion

Phena - In fact Aloka, there doesn't seem to be many women voices in general on Dhamma Wheel. I wonder why that is? Actually, where are the female Mods and/or Admins? This place has a serious lack of balance. Not just with gender but it seems also to be a prerequisite to have a Moderation or Admin ...

Re: Dhamma and Abortion

Can you tell me which Theravada teachers supported there is an intermediate stage? Others here would know better than I would. I haven't read this yet, but I'm about to - I think it might offer some food for thought: http://santifm.org/santipada/2010/rebirth-and-the-in-between-state-in-early-buddhi...

Re: Buddhism, Socialism/Communism and Capitalism

Not false. How we volitionally frame reality determines 'existence' and what is true to each of us in terms of our subjective experience. When one frames experience through the lens of patriarchy, identity politics, critical race theory and other such frames of reference adopted by those on the lef...

Re: Buddhism, Socialism/Communism and Capitalism

f the meaning of a term is merely conventional, then how are we to know whether we are using it correctly? But that is exactly what the word "convention" pertains to, a shared, common understanding, in the realm of the conceptual and ideas. I think you are trying to point out the arbitrar...

Re: Buddhism, Socialism/Communism and Capitalism

Well you are using the rhetoric of the alt-right, but I have no idea what label you attach to your extreme right position. Who is to say what is an "extreme right" position? If someone doesn't think that Retro is extreme, how are we to decide who is right? Well, ultimately what is "e...

The rhetoric of the alt-right. Absolutely nothing to do with the Dhamma and Satipatthana.

Re: Buddhism, Socialism/Communism and Capitalism

Let's cut to the chase. I'm mentally capable of respecting your autonomy and allowing you to have your views without hectoring you about them - do you have the capacity and civility to do likewise? Or is "tolerance" a self-congratulatory virtue the left has abandoned? I do not understand ...
