Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings, Thank you everyone for sharing your perspectives. As you can see from the poll results and the written responses, there is a diverse range of very disparate views on the matter. Staff will now reflect on what has been said here and decide whether there are any changes that can and should ...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Kim, FWIW, I also respect the right of each member to make up their own mind and to post freely within the ToS but I believe that a team member's political views should not affect their moderation. And you'll be pleased to know they don't, and moderators would not be allowed to moderate th...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Mr Man, To repeat, I have political views. To repeat, I do not demonstrate political bias in the moderation or administration of this forum. By your over-simplified logic, staff wouldn't be allowed to have an opinion on anything. I don't hear you whinging that, for example, Mike tends to h...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Mr Man, I just don't think the admin should be posting silly memes and constantly showing his political bias. Do you? I think that I have views, just like anyone. I also believe I have zero bias when it comes to moderating and adminstrating a forum, which is the role I have been tasked to ...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Mr Man, There's a previous topic where I outlined how my political views evolved from my Dhamma views. You're welcome to see things differently, because unlike you, I actually respect your intellectual autonomy to see things differently. Is it your contention that Buddhists are not allowed...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Mr Man, What Paul is making, now really pay attention and look, is an unsubstantiated slur. He is pushing his agenda (and it is not Buddhist). What "unsubstantiated slur" is that? Now, do speak clearly Mr Man. I'm also rather curious about this supposedly "not Buddhist" agenda that I have....

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings, Two good observations... The focus on autonomy of the members is because that is the only way to run a system where there are discrepant viewpoints without the system favouring one group. Correct, but it also goes deeper. The respect for the autonomy of the members is also in line with wh...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Binocular, If one isn't pro-Trump, one is going to have trouble at this forum, in one way or another, in the News section or outside of it. How so? Moderators moderate that section in accordance with the rules of that section, not their politics. And... even with that being so, the pro-Tru...

You can do the News one yourself, following the instructions in the pinned topic there... but I'll do the Lounge for you.

Re: Compassion for Women

Greetings,

The Buddha taught that compassion is to developed in a manner that is unlimited, non-discriminatory and universal. As such, it goes without saying that as a subset of all beings, compassion should be directed towards women.

Re: Should starbucks allow non- customers to use restrooms and seating?

Greetings, Where?? Starbucks USA. They have an interesting history in recent years of pandering to the left, which rather than placating them, seems to incentivise them to make ever more egregious demands upon the organization. Many non-leftists no longer frequent Starbucks due to their policies and...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings Dhammarakkhito, what's wrong with the ten topics of conversation prescribed here: www.buddha-vacana.org/sutta/anguttara/10/an10-069.html sure, politics is popular and a lot of people are going to vote to keep it. but the dhamma runs counter to what the world finds endearing I don't disagre...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings, OWTTE "Or words to that effect" I don't know what the original words were, nor who spoke them, but I doubt anyone said or meant "let them fight it out" in any literal sense. Far more specifically, what we've done is to allow a "marketplace of ideas" where all perspectives are allowed to h...

Some would.

Why would you expect otherwise when the world is neither a commune, a family, nor a Sangha?

Re: Should starbucks allow non- customers to use restrooms and seating?

Greetings Lyndon, What if you have no money?? Do you even care about people that have no money???? Of course. That's why I support successful, heroic leaders whose economic policies support the establishment of "full employment", so that there can be a job for anyone who wants one. This sense of ent...

Re: Member Poll on "News, Current Events & Politics" at DW

Greetings James, Now that I've opted out of the News and Politics section, everything looks nice and restful, and dhammic. Highly recommended. I'm glad you like it. That's precisely why we split the News out of the Lounge and created that functionality in the first place. Unfortunately, most who hav...
