Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings Mr Man,

In turn you can't support your claim it's false... so what of it?

Does your portentous and pernickety interrogation make this forum more Buddhist?

Or is it just more inane weirdness?

Re: Is Nibbana cessation of being?

Greetings Sarath, What is the Pali word for "being"? Two options that come to mind are "satta" or "bhava" - I'm no expert, but the satta seems like a noun, and bhava seems like an adjective. Bhava obviously makes an appearance in the paticcasamuppada formula, so it's probably most apt here (translat...

Re: Is Nibbana cessation of being?

Greetings Sarath, Is Nibbana a cessation of being? Yes. Is cessation means annihilation? Cessation means the cessation of sankhata-dhammas. Do you speak of "annihilation" in the context of dhammas? I find it more natural to see it in terms of the second half of the standard idappaccayata structure. ...

Now you're getting it! :D What can we really know for sure? Who am I anyway, or you, for that matter? Is what we read true, or is it just someone else's view?
Keep it quiet though....

Re: The Truth About The Rohingya Lie

Greetings chownah, so, retrofuturist, perhaps you should please calm down. Don't worry, I'm cool. 8-) From my perspective, we're all against murder, all against rape, all against violence, all against dislocation and the wanton destruction of property. I think mastering jhana before BV represents saving oneself before trying to save or help others.
Just like the emergency instructions on an aeroplane.

Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings Mr Man, Which religion is that? I don't intend to mention it, for the reasons stated above. Besides, it doesn't matter, because I'm advocating for equal, not unequal treatment of non-Buddhist traditions in the eyes of the Terms of Service. Do you object to that? I don't think what you are ...

Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings, Connection to Other Paths has a fair number of attacks against other religions or sects without even an attempt to explore connections, comparisons, or relevance to Theravada Buddhism. I would suggest yanking such posts. I would consider moving anything particularly contentious to the New...

Greetings Will, Never mind noble Will who is saving his soul from the ravages of contention, what about the others? Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings, First choice would be for David to evaporate the News-Events-Politics forum. There are vast numbers of online & other media for that. But I fear he will not - so the other option is for all of us to not post there at all. Just some history (for the sake of background, not to say it needs ...

Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings, It is a shame to because even after a heated debate people would have the option to consider the other view rather than having fortified their own. Though you rarely ever see such contentiousness end that way around here. Maybe though, but you never know though. I mean, is there anyone he...

Re: Let's make this forum more Buddhist!

Greetings SDC, What we have on this forum are people with such fundamentally different modes of operation that disunity is just a matter of fact, and that lack of commonality is grounds enough for some to settle for blood when knowledge does not seem viable. Yes, "Dhamma of the Theravada" is the the...
