Re: Emptiness: the reality beyond reality

The chair emerged from nothing. So what existed first is nothing - the ultimate truth . If "nothing" becomes something.....then the cycle of Cause and Effect cannot be true! Depending on how one grasp on the word of Emptiness / nothing.....it cannot be NIL. That is why the teaching is via the "midd...

Intention, I tell you, is kamma. Intending, one does kamma by way of body, speech and mind. And what is the cause by which kamma comes into play? Contact, bhikkhus. ... And what is the cessation of kamma? From the cessation of contact is the cessation of kamma; and just this noble eightfold path – ...

Re: post-annihilationist nibbana tangents

So the nearest thing we can describe as nibbana is death, is it not? Imagination it is.....if it is the case then there is no requirement for the path to exist.....yet, when reached.....it can be noted as: Dhp XI 154:.....O house-builder, you are seen! You will not build this house again. For your ...

Re: What does it mean to have no views?

However I think it's far more interesting to ask if Buddha really believed in the doctrines he expounded, in terms of kamma and rebirth, or if he merely viewed them as being useful? Or perhaps you could say that they aren't views when directly known? I'm not sure. Buddha taught based on a believe?....

Re: Discussion of not self in MA 6 and AN 7.55

I want to focus on: Here, a bhikkhu is practicing thus: ‘It might not be, and it might not be mine. It will not be; it will not be mine.' He obtains equanimity. He is not attached to existence; he is not attached to origination. He sees with correct wisdom: ‘There is a higher state that is peaceful...

The question is whether five hindrances be suppressed by keeping "God" as the meditation object. (Under AN 9.64: Hindrances): "Monks, there are these five hindrances. Which five? Sensual desire as a hindrance, ill will as a hindrance, sloth & drowsiness as a hindrance, restlessness & anxiety as a h...

The N8P itself provides the "right view" / pointing / directing / aiming / looking towards.....to what is being directed. Ajahn Sumedho from his book Intuitive Awareness : In terms of this conditioned realm that we perceive, create and hold to, it is a very unstable, uncertain, undependable and changing condition in itself. That’s just the way it is. The Buddha pointed to the instability of conditioned phenomena, to t...

Sometimes an ironic, paradoxical, or illogical description can highlight the profoundness of the mystery, other times it's just BS. I'm inclined towards the latter regarding the description we're discussing. It all depends.....but no matter how much we like to read, to hear and even point at it.......
