Re: the great vegetarian debate
When you read the links I have already provided and which are included int the Thread called "plants", your doubts born of ignorance will be addressed, assuming you can understand what is written. I am not currently in the mood to address your ignorance. "You" will have to study...

Re: the great vegetarian debate
Hi, Kim. I get it. The idea is to cause no harm, but the reality is that something, animal or plant gets harmed when you eat it unless it is already deceased. One of the ways to avoid that is to go the route of The Fruit and Nut-atarians. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fruitarianism" onclick=&qu...

Re: Simple Diet please?
haha i like how everyone is addicted to working for a government that doesnt even care about us personally. Enjoy.xD ENJOY. We work for ourselves and, if we are lucky enough to have a good job that allows it, for the help of other people. Does the "government" care about us? I know, obvio...

Re: Exposing Buddhism???
I don't agree with anyone 100% — to do so I would have to suspend my own critical faculty — though it might be convenient for the sake of harmony to agree with everything everyone says. If the Buddha were alive today, then I would have to agree with him 100%, but he's not. I don't even agree with e...

Re: Right Livelihood and being a biologist
It is far more important to consider the suffering, feelings, emotions and thoughts of animals than it is to consider the karmic consequences of causing suffering or death. Killing/inflicting suffering is bad because it produces this negative feeling/loss of life in other beings. Reduce suffering/de...

Re: Exposing Buddhism???
Some people who claim "Buddhist" still hold onto dogmas, traditions, ceremonies, rites, worship of idols and Buddha himself, adopting local gods, afterlifes, etc. These things are common among Buddhists but do no truly represent Buddhism as it was intended to be.

Re: entitlement
The one 'hot button' I have left that I have not made any traction on is my response (dissatisfaction/anger/disgust) when people seem to have a sense of entitlement. I am totally unsure of what pattern this comes from or what unconscious trigger is being tripped. But from homeless people to richy r...

Re: My thoughts on Anatta (not-Self)
It seems that way, but it isn't self-refuting.Think about it like this: You have to realize that the motives for our choices and the choices themselves and the will to choose them are all influenced by cause and effect. I choose to type the letter "X". I made the choice, right now I just ...

Re: My thoughts on Anatta (not-Self)
Bolded is mine. If something is predetermined due to causality, then it is not really Free Will. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compatibilism" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Compatibilism seems to be self refuting: " In other words, although an agent may often be free to...

Re: My thoughts on Anatta (not-Self)
It is Free Will still. Certainly our free will is predetermined due to causality , but it is still our own free will. We make our own choices, we choose our own choices...That does not, however, mean that what we want to choose or decide to choose isn't predetermined. It IS "our choice" b...

Re: Simple Diet please?
Hello again... Buddha did not want to isolate himself from society, nor did he want to think that he was above society. Siddhartha took a leave of society in order to achieve enlightenment, however once achieving his goal he quickly made it a point to integrate himself back into society in order to ...

Re: My thoughts on Anatta (not-Self)
There are things that are true, then there are things that are true! just because it is true, or real, does not mean it is in line with the truth, the Buddhas teachings, or in reality true i.e., it is just a preference. Alcahol is a real thing, yet it is not in line with the Dhamma to drink. 1+1=2 ...
