Re: Creating disgust of the body

second i must say that i really like epic meal time - for me it looks delicious 90% of what they do - but as a vegan i see it as not moral to watch them just to think about how much increases in animal consumption they caused and how much death they caused because of this videos If you want somethi...

Re: How can we have compassion for child abusers?

As a victim of abuse, they are going to be on my mind. While I recognize my role in choosing to focus on the issue, I am not yet strong enough to keep my focus elsewhere. Shortly after this post, I found out that my older cousin, who abused me, died of liver failure. This brought on a whole slew of...

Thanissaro Bhikkhu: Because his dharma talks are amazing compelling, setting me in the path, not only for right concentration & mindfulness. Bhikkhu Bodhi: His knowledge about the buddha's teachings and the pali cannon, he got me really interested in the suttas and the search for truth in the pali c...

Re: Thanissaro Bikkhu and manipulation of the breathe

He encourages people to breathe through their eyes, through their hands. It feels good to tap into the "breath energy" which is indeed coursing through the body, as ki, or chi, though T.B doesn't acknowledge it as such. The founder of the tradition (Ajahn Lee) developed it to heal his body after a ...

Re: Why I Hate Buddhism

I tend to think about the 3rd noble truth, you said that your belief are the same as the buddha, so the important thing is, there's an end to suffering. Whenever I feel like 'hating' buddhism because the practice is getting me nowhere, I think of this, the 3rd noble truth.

That was an interesting read, thank you for taking the time to write it. I'll keep it in mind when practicing and surely come back a few times to re-read it.

Re: Shaking during meditation

this has happened to me on several occasions over the past year, it was quite violent at times for me. I was concerned the first time it happened and the second time I spoke to some monastics about it to get some different views upon it, one opinion was it was simply the wind element (the element o...

Re: Shaking during meditation

Hi Carlos Try and remained focused on the object of meditation for as long as possible without a break in your concentration.. As concentration develops we notice all sorts of subtle stuff going on in our mind and body we had been previously unaware of. Don't pay it any attention and retrain your f...

Re: Trouble breathing while meditating

Hi, Once your breathing starts to disappear or unnoticeable, don't look for breathing anymore. It is time for you to go to the next step, which is Vipassana. Use that calmess and stability of your mind to see through your body, mind, etc., as suggested in Satipatthana Sutta. http://www.accesstoinsi...

Shaking during meditation

Hi, Since the last few days when I'm doing meditation (anapanasati) I've been feeling shaking in my body, and I cannot seem to focus. If I'm just really still I can feel a shaking sensation in the whole body, like if there were some construction working in the building. I'm wondering sometimes if th...

Re: Recent retreat experience

Thanks mikenz66 for this post, really gave me a lot to think about. I also suffer a bit form complacence, and I'm just at the beginning of the practice, I spend a lot of time in calm states instead in put effort in going forward in the path.

Re: Binge eating.

... Hi carlos, I'm finding that restraint in matters of sensual pleasures is easier if we can get some taste from meditation practice, so you're on the right track by meditating twice a day. Of course the pleasure of meditation is subtle, and is not the same as sensual pleasure, so it cannot be con...
