Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Hi Reductor, It would seem that you are on to something with the different types of sleep. I think we can all agree that sleep which leaves you feeling more groggy after you wake up than when you fell asleep could be regarded as "bad" (or, at least, "unsatisfying") sleep. In fact, such sleep, in the...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Today has been a day of merry-making, as it is my daughter's sixth birthday. :woohoo: I love that kid so, so much! Awwww Happy Birthday Kiddo!!!!!! All the activity did have a slight cost, however, because I fell asleep on the couch again. That has been happening a lot to me lately. But when I awok...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Hi Reductor and All, I know my personality somewhat well (though it is still subject to the law of impermanence) and I know it can be a stubborn ass at times. But at least it is not an impossible stubborn ass. In other words, it will take me a while, after initiating a wholesome intention (and even ...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Until you know what will really motivate you, I suggest you commit to 15 minutes or so each day this month, and then post here about your success and failure. If you agree to do so, I promise to give you a hard time when ever you neglect to post. hahahaha fiiiiine... You are committing yourself? If...

Re: Self-Discipline

Hi Goofaholix, More importantly have you been keeping up mindfulness of your daily activities, have you been noticing your mind states and quality of awareness throughout the day? if you can do this reasonably consistantly then build on this, don't worry if you are not sitting much, if you can't the...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Hi Dhammanewb, I haven't been meditating...Any tips on self-discipline? Hi Guy, Do you know anyone else who meditates? If you do you could ask that person or group of people to be your meditation partner(s) and just send each other a quick email every day letting the other person/people know you did...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

So yes, I did my hour. It is becoming easier and easier to do each day, in terms of habit and duration. That's reassuring to know, too!!! Last night was difficult in that I was burdened by certain defilements, while tonight was very good. It was smooth sailing, and I ended with a good bout of brahm...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

hi TheReductor, Actually, it occurred to me that meditation is like playing a musical instrument, a little bit. Not practising for a prolonged period of time allows the "muscle memory" to erode. But, the knowledge of theory remains, as does the knowledge of how to train to play that instrument. Alon...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Hi TheReductor, I can only imagine what it must be like being a father AND a meditator! Great effort! It's an interesting experience isn't it, when you make the dullness the object of the meditation (as long as it's not too strong) it often fades away and is replaced by brightness. When the dullness...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

Hi TheReductor and All, It's good to hear about your experience because it means I'm not alone when it comes to dropping the practice! I also have been trying to cut back to what I really "need" in life. Probably one of the biggest areas I need to cut back (or be more selective about) are my friends...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge

This is a good thread (and a good forum!!!) so I wish to resurrect it. I aim to start meditating for 1 hour every evening - 30 minutes walking and 30 minutes sitting. Maybe even 50 minutes walking and 10 minutes sitting (I'm pretty restless these days). Maybe even just an hour of walking meditation ...
