Re: The Quotable Thanissaro

Laurence Carroll (U Dhammaloka). The first western Buddhist monk?

It is no surprise really that for the last 100 years many Buddhist studies expert have cited the Englishman Alan Bennet (known as Bhikkhu Ananda Metteyya) as being the first western Buddhist monk, when in fact Dhammaloka was there long before him. Dhammaloka was simply unacknowledged by the history...

There is no abdomen. Only movement, pressure, hotness, coldness...
So wherever you focus on the body, all is the same.

Re: Any recommended teachings, talks, or advice for dealing with noise?

Why waste your time being interested in those things? It's the nature of light to be bright. It's the nature of noise to be loud. That's what their functions are. If you don't focus on listening, that's the end of the matter. Act in a way that's not in opposition to your surroundings, for that's ju...

Re: Absorption in Insight Meditation

Offtopic, but interesting quote from page 159: Cause of Confusion: Some people do not appreciate meditation since they do not take the Satipaṭṭhāna Sutta seriously. The Buddha’s teaching is simple and straightforward, but they mix it up with the teaching of the Abhidhamma and Commentaries — hence th...

The ear is burning, sounds are burning... https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/sn35/sn35.028.nymo.html Burning with what? Burning with the fire of lust, with the fire of hate, with the fire of delusion. I say it is burning with birth, aging and death, with sorrows, with lamentations, with pa...
