Re: meditation/five khandas

Two more questions: * Do the “sankharas” in the Five Khandas have the same meaning as the “sankharas” in Dependent Origination? * Quote daverupa “sanna”- general cognition, “sankhara” - processes; e.g. personality, preference, word associations, memories, etcetera ad nauseum. End Quote . Don’t these...

Re: Depression

And here is a tip from far off Scandinavia: spending a couple of hours a week in a sauna, mixed with ice-cold showers (or rolling naked in snow if you have access to it), is in my experience helpful in battling The Black Dog.

Re: Members Bios - please contribute yours

Greetings, I have absolutely no credentials when it comes to buddhism, aside from home studies and living a life that knows dukkha in its many aspects :-) Most of my inspiration comes from Ajahn Sumedho and Ajahn Sucitto, whose online dhamma talks form an important part of my life. I live in far nor...

I ve been trying to search you in the introduction forum but have not succeeded. Most of my browsing of the forum is thro...

Re: meditation/five khandas

Thank you for your replies. quote ..and it might be worthwhile to unpack what you mean by "meditate on them" end quote . Yeah exactly... I'm a beginner and also autodidact when it comes to meditation so the question is worthwile. What I mean is that whilst the breath is used as focal point, phenomen...

meditation/five khandas

I've been experimenting with meditation on the five khandas, but falls short when it comes to defining and categorizing certain states of body and mind. I have figured out that this might be due to a personal unwillingness to categorize experience, but I have noticed certain side-effects from my exp...

Re: motivation

Hi chownah, mikenz66 linked to a thread about advice given mainly from the Pali canon, the Upajjhatthana Sutta etc. bodom linked to a thread with advice given from Bhante Gunaratana, which is a modern teacher. Both links where helpful in the sense that they contain sound advice, but bodom linked to ...

Re: motivation

Bodom,

We're getting close, but it wasn't this either :cry:I have played with the idea that I saw the link in another forum, but I'm almost 100 percent sure that it was in this one. Anyway, thx for your reply :namaste:

Re: motivation

Hi Mikenz66 Txh for the welcome! The link you provided was helpful, but it wasn't the one I was looking for. As I recall it the advice given came from a modern meditation teacher, sort of a checklist of some of the benefits of meditation, to recall before doing a sitting! But txh anyway - I'll keep ...

motivation

Hi, I'm new to this forum. When going through some of the posts last week I came across a thread that had to do with motivation in meditation. Somewhere in this thread there was a post linking to a text dealing with things to contemplate before a meditation. I bookmarked the post but it disappeared....
