Re: I disrobed and returned to "normal" life

I'm glad that you had the experience and decided that it wasn't for you. Life as a monastic is not easy and you constantly have to go against the currents of your defilements. Although you no longer wear brown robes, you can still practice and that's the most important thing. I believe Nibbana is a ...

Re: Pa Auk Tawya Forest Monastery

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience there A. Bhikkhu. Very informative. Yea when it said up to 1800 occupants during festival times on their website I was quite overwhelmed because that's a lot of people. Although, it does sound like a decent place minus the noise that you mentioned. Are there ...

Pa Auk Tawya Forest Monastery

Has anyone been to Pa Auk Tawya? If if you have, would you recommend it for foreign monastics? Could you share your experiences while staying there? Thinking of possibly going there in the future but would like to know what others have to say about the place?

Re: Where to experience monastic life in North America

Having stayed at Wat Metta for 2 months many years ago I can say Ajahn Geoff and the monks there keep very strictly to the vinaya, i.e. keeping the 227 rules, no touching money, etc. Your expected to keep the 8 precepts while staying there. Wat Metta is a very peaceful place to practice and in the a...

Re: Places to stay near Wat Pah Pong and Wat Pah Nanachat

There's hotels just outside of Bun Wai at the main market place. Why not just stay at WPN? Only downside is if you stay longer then 3 days you will have to shave your head.

Re: Dharma Talks or Videos

I've been listening to Ajahn Geoff for many years now and really like his Dhamma talks. He's got a soothing voice and his Dhamma talks goes straight to the point, which I like. You can find his talks at http://www.dhammatalks.org" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Buddha in different world system

In the suttas it talks about the ten thousand fold world systems. So my question is, would it be possible that in another world system a Buddhas sasana has arisen there also?

Re: Ordination first steps

First would be to get permission from your parents to ordain. If you have their consent then the next step would be to make sure that all your debt is paid off. I would recommend getting a tourist visa to Thailand and traveling to different monasteries and seeing which one you most connect with, as ...

Re: Ordination first steps

Quick to ordain, quick to disrobe. First off, I'm not here to bash on your intentions to ordain as a monk, I think its a wonderful thing but do realize that one can still practice whether in monks robes or lay clothes. People have the impression that becoming a monk there is only peace and ease and ...

Does anyone know if Luang Por Prasit is still alive?

Does anyone know if Luang Por Prasit is still alive? His temple is called Wat Paa Moo Mai in Mae Taeng, Chiang Mai, Thailand. I didn't get a chance to visit when I was in Thailand 2 years ago. I couldn't find much info on him. I'm wondering if he is still the current abbot there?

Re: How do I ordain

Hi friends, My brother and I are leaving for Thailand on Sept. 5th. I'm looking to ordain and he is just exploring Buddhism. I've spent 2 months at a Wat in California and let me tell you becoming and staying a monk is definitely not an easy thing. But for those that want to put an end to their suff...

Re: A proper preparation for becoming an anagarika

As far as preparation the most important thing is to keep at least the 8 precepts and be practicing meditation. I don't believe your expected to support yourself but I would recommend having saved money for visa runs if your in another country. Doing various chores and cleaning is dana. Giving your ...
