Re: Can a sotāpanna committ suicide?

People tend to use Ven. Nyanavira's proclamation (that he did not want to be made public I might add).. Do you have an proof for that? If not it is just a speculation and you can't state it like a fact. Don't you think If he wouldn't have want anyone to read his notes he would have likely destroyed...

Re: Can a sotāpanna committ suicide?

Would be educational to know about those instances. I came across instances of "suicide" (so to speak) but those monks had completed the path already as well there was no vipaka for them to stay on. I am thinking of course of Channa Sutta primarily (and I'm sure you are too) but I seem to recall th...

Re: Can a sotāpanna committ suicide?

I'm thinking particularly of Nanavira Thera who claimed to be a stream-enterer. Nanavira Thera, translator of Julius Evola and author of "Notes on Dhamma" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanavira_Thera An ariya-puggala (noble one) cannot commit suicide in the way we putthujana's (worldlings) think of...

Re: Theravadin Resource guide

This could possibly be the largest online collection of free Theravada books - 933 books as at 12 Nov 2018 http://scriptoq.com/page/resources/book_index/buddhism/theravada Seems like a great resource but as others have said currently just an index so I've fired off an email to them to see what they...

Re: The Truth About The Rohingya Lie

Look there is no doubt that there has been a lot of violence from Rohingya islamists dating back a long way. The issue I am taking is with the Buddhist response to this, so called Buddhists engaging in terrible and despicable acts, raping women and children and burning babies alive. Man, no matter w...

Re: The Truth About The Rohingya Lie

You know, when this campaign of hatred, rape, pilagging and downright murder was in its infancy I remember trying to kick up a stink about one of its chiefs, a so called monk. I remember getting what was a lukewarm response here at best. I came here today hoping to see that real Buddhists would fina...

Re: The Truth about Dalai Lama

The author of that video is controversial. Look him up. As far as I know, the Dalai Lama retired from his political offices in 2011. Controversial perhaps, but often a damn sight more accurate in his reading of situations than you'll usually get from the MSM. I like Molyneux, don't always agree wit...

Re: The Ghost in the Shell.

I'm a big fan of serious anime. Some of the most affecting stories and themes I've watched has been in Anime. Particularly existential themes like in Cowboy Bebop, Mushishi, Samurai Champloo, FMA brotherhood etc. I've always wanted to get into this series, BUT the sequence of stories is quite compli...

Re: English culture advantages and disadvantages

I've read about australians and some say they are very different than the english while some say they are exactly the same. About new zealanders, they say they are exactly the same. This is probably because of the fact that australians are descendents of convicts while new zealanders were the usual...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

If you study the polling, Rasmussen was wrong with a Republican bias on a lot of elections beside the President, they don't have a good track record and most people don't take them seriously. Here's an article on just how the Rasmussen bias works; https://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/0...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Funny you should quote the most right wing biased inaccurate polling source, Rasmussen. Here's real clear politics with all the major polls on Trumps disapproval, they tell a very different story. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/trump_favorableunfavorable-5493.html ...But as I said be...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Identity politics is one of the strongest reasons we have this swing towards the Alt Right, but instead of understanding this and recognizing the mistake, it seems a lot of people on the left are doubling down on the idpol nonsense (especially this hyperbolic idea that there is a patriarchy controll...

Re: Mahashi [and other Satipatthana/Samadhi development methods] vs sutta [and contemplating higher teachings] (explaine

I inform you that right view is not something reserved for arahants in Buddha teachings. I wouldn't be much of a seeker if I were not aware that right view is attained at stream entry. So you're informing me of nothing much I'm afraid. The point I was making about the Buddha engaging in debates was...

If you want to debate a point I have made that you feel is wrong, then feel free to do so. I can see you went to some difficulty to ignore the meaning of what I was saying. If you took my post to mean I have an interest in contradicting your long treatises then you're sadly mistaken. I will engage ...
