Re: The Truth about Dalai Lama

The author of that video is controversial. Look him up. As far as I know, the Dalai Lama retired from his political offices in 2011. Controversial perhaps, but often a damn sight more accurate in his reading of situations than you'll usually get from the MSM. I like Molyneux, don't always agree wit...

Re: The Ghost in the Shell.

I'm a big fan of serious anime. Some of the most affecting stories and themes I've watched has been in Anime. Particularly existential themes like in Cowboy Bebop, Mushishi, Samurai Champloo, FMA brotherhood etc. I've always wanted to get into this series, BUT the sequence of stories is quite compli...

Re: English culture advantages and disadvantages

I've read about australians and some say they are very different than the english while some say they are exactly the same. About new zealanders, they say they are exactly the same. This is probably because of the fact that australians are descendents of convicts while new zealanders were the usual...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

If you study the polling, Rasmussen was wrong with a Republican bias on a lot of elections beside the President, they don't have a good track record and most people don't take them seriously. Here's an article on just how the Rasmussen bias works; https://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/0...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Funny you should quote the most right wing biased inaccurate polling source, Rasmussen. Here's real clear politics with all the major polls on Trumps disapproval, they tell a very different story. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/other/trump_favorableunfavorable-5493.html ...But as I said be...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Identity politics is one of the strongest reasons we have this swing towards the Alt Right, but instead of understanding this and recognizing the mistake, it seems a lot of people on the left are doubling down on the idpol nonsense (especially this hyperbolic idea that there is a patriarchy controll...

I inform you that right view is not something reserved for arahants in Buddha teachings. I wouldn't be much of a seeker if I were not aware that right view is attained at stream entry. So you're informing me of nothing much I'm afraid. The point I was making about the Buddha engaging in debates was...

If you want to debate a point I have made that you feel is wrong, then feel free to do so. I can see you went to some difficulty to ignore the meaning of what I was saying. If you took my post to mean I have an interest in contradicting your long treatises then you're sadly mistaken. I will engage ...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Trump pulls U.S. out of Pacific trade deal, loosening Asia ties From the little I've read, my opinion is that this is a good thing for Americans. And it's good that he kept his promise on this. It's good for everyone, for all nations and their people that this trade deal doesn't go ahead. One thing...

What is the purpose of a forum if not to debate ? I would contend it is just as much about: - meeting kalyana mittas - having a feeling of solidarity and community - encouragement from others - learning - bettering one's own understanding and rounding off one's own sharp edges as it is about debati...

In other news: Trump has signed an executive order formally removing the USA from the TPPA. This is a very good thing, because that deal was simply a corporate cash grab and takeover of National sovereignty.

Is interviewing conway about lies presented at a news conference really what the news should be doing? Why ask her why did the administration tell someone to report lies? What do you think she is going to say? Do you think that this question caught her off guard? :jumping: Do you think that she had...

Re: POTUS 2016, part 3

Day two of the Trump administration and we clearly have them lying, all the while leveling this claim at the media. This will be the future modus operandi - attack the media if they don't report what Trump wants and accuse them of doing exactly what he is doing, the old "look over there" trick. The...

Re: Is bodily pain also dukkha?

In the sense of the Khandhas - that pain is a feeling? No. Pain falls under perception, feeling is your reaction to that sensation which is either Dukkha (unpleasant), Sukha (pleasant) or Adhukkham-asukha (neither pleasant or unpleasant - Neutral) If you were to talk of the experience of pain (which...

To the OP: How long have you been interested in Buddhism? I think getting a Dhamma related tattoo should come from the heart, with the right mind set it can serve as a reminder to oneself of one's dedicated to the Triple Gem. But if you are a new practitioner, my advice would be to wait a year or tw...

The people I respect most in the Thai human rights and prodemocracy movement all tell me that defending Wat Phra Dhammakaya [Phra Dhammakaya Temple] is the most important Thai human rights issue at the moment: That the very independence of Buddhism in Thailand is at stake; that not content with gra...
