Re: The world will end (again) on Friday night

If this also would be the end of my Samsara, I would really appreciate it.

Re: thoughts on jesus

To me, Jesus seemed to be a great teacher - especially in loving kindness.

Re: Honoring your parents and at the same time going against ..

Venerating and helping and loving parents doesn't mean that you have to do everything what they say That's how I think, too. My parents both had a lot of problems, my mother was depressive, my father neurotic and violent and even though I dedicated my life to the dhamma, in retrospect it was good t...

"Samsaro"

Dear friends, yesterday, I attended with one of the mothers I work for, a talk about young refugees. We watched a movie about a young man who reported about his escape in a crowded container and how he experienced the death of another refugee there. The most disconcerting report was told by a social...

Re: Is it ever O.K. to lie?

I take my vows (Silas) very, very seriously and I really try to keep them strictly. But if it ever would happen, that a Neo-Nazi would stand in front of my door and ask if my african adopted daughter or my african and disabled foster daughter is here, I definitly would lie and say "no" to ...

Re: The train morality problem

Frankly I think, I would become so desperated and overchallengend that I would become completely incabable of action and getting a mental breakdown.
No matter how much I am trained to act in challenging situations - this situation would freeze me.

Re: The Metta Sutta, why so important?

This matter is touching me, although I don't have a direct answer, but I like to write why the Metty Sutta is maybe the most important Sutta to me. Before I start with my meditation, I often recite the Metta Sutta (translation by Sharon Salzberg) and it helps to open my heart. Depending on my own mo...

Re: Sri Lanka Buddhist monks destroy Muslim shrine

At the moment, the question on justice seems to overstrain me a little. For many years, I worked for an international Human Rights Organisation and I still volunteer at the refugee council. I made many experiences, I experienced many times that sometimes I felt to be on my limit of tolerance and whe...

Re: Sri Lanka Buddhist monks destroy Muslim shrine

Additional, another thing came up into my mind. I asked myself: "What would the Buddha say about this?" (A friend of mine gave this inspiration to me - once he said: "When you have doubts and when you have to find answers: just think about: what would the Buddha do?") So I though...

Re: Sri Lanka Buddhist monks destroy Muslim shrine

I had intended the discussion to revolve around a Buddhist response to a monk acting in this way. The Muslim component is quite beside the point, and the emerging tit-for-tat mentality in some posts is quite embarrassing. I also think, that "tit-for-tat" is not the right way ( I wanted to...

Re: Sri Lanka Buddhist monks destroy Muslim shrine

Although Muslims have destroyed countless great monuments in Buddhism but there is no need to destroy their shrine.
I agree with you. At the moment I feel confused, because that's not the way how I understand the Dhamma.
May they be able to find a peacful way and dialogue to solve the problems.

Re: Going to temple

To me it is always very special when I go to the temple and see my teacher there.
After a visit at the temple, I always feel inspired and it confirms my confidence. I feel so happy that we have a temple not too far away from us.

Re: Where were you on 9-11?

I also remember this day very well. On this day (I was 31 years then), I did a little job in a jewellry store, a long time before I started social working. I remembert that this day started very relaxed and I went with a sunshiny feeling to work, because I always enjoy to work. As far as I remember,...

Re: the earth shook

I am glad to read that you are all right.
The news hit me: I had been so many, many, many times in Washington DC and I was really glad to read in Facebook that friends of us are doing fine.
