Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

No, sorry to say that I did not see any proof of the sutta that says ignorance is something constitute of 100% ignorance , and a person needs to chip off bit by bit of the ignorance . Then how do you explaine both Sutta and Abhidhamma's specification of Ignorance as belonging to the higher fetters,...

Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

Can you provide logical reason with why desire for formless realm and restlessness is included in the fetters ? If an arahant only attained to form jhana how can s/he abandon the desire for formless realm fetter ? Since I've already provided references, but you have not provided any to back up your...

Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

I doubt that the five higher fetters is correct. As I said , ignorance is about View , once abandoned , only left greed hatred to work on . Please provide backup sutta references/literature to back up your claims above, especially your belief that Sotapannas have completely 100% eradicated Ignorance.

Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

I would say a sotapanna come back 7 times because they still have certain degree of greed and hatred but not ignorance . Ignorance is a view , is a veil of darkness . You seem to say that a Sotapanna has completedly 100% eradicated ignorance. This is not true. Avijja/Ignorance is among the 5 higher...

Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

Ignorance is not understanding the Dukkha with regards to its arising & passing away , the gratification, the danger, and the escape in regard to the six bases for contact ie the five aggregates . Thus a sotapanna would be already abandoned the ignorance , or else s/he does not understand the four ...

Re: Does the ignorance remove later or in the beginning ?

If ignorance is abandoned at the end when attaining arahatship , this means a sotapanna still have ignorant . Thus, the sotapanna will have Wrong View per Sn45.1. Therefore , a sotapanna do not have True Knowledge . Notice SN 45.1 says: "For an unwise person immersed in ignorance , wrong view sprin...

It sounds as though you are saying that the ends justify the means?
No, one has to cook up something to qualify it as "ends justify means". In the DN 3 case, the Buddha didn't cook up anything. He simply stated the fact.

Re: High Birth Low Birth

Notice the exceedingly arrogant attitude Ambattha displayed when he first met the Buddha: 1.9. Ambattha went up to the dwelling and on to the verandah, coughed, and knocked. The Lord opened the door, and Ambaṭṭha went in. The young men entered, exchanged courtesies with the Lord, and sat down to one...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

No he did not. Not in that DN 31 case. Maybe he has compassion and does not wish to cause people to worry; given what was omitted is rarely practised in the West and probably has greatly declined in Asia. I recall posting this passage once on this forum and an Australian member accused me of accusi...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

If you wholeheartely believe there're real mistakes, why not? Please do. Since I cannot even convince you about Dhamma matters, how can I convince them? Buddhism is sectarian . Different monks appear to deliberately make different offerings to the spiritual marketplace. :focus: No he did not. Not i...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

Since you seem to have a good experience with him, why don't you contact him to have him correct his translation mistake of DN 31 . Lol. If I did that then I would have to also send many very long letters to Bhikkhu Bodhi, Thanissaro and all of the other translators. If you wholeheartely bel...

Re: Bhante Sujatos and karmic snobbery.

Well, I have met and spoken to him a few times . While I certainly do not accord with much of the mission he has chosen nor agree with many of his views, I found him very pleasant, with good skills, with good metta and very open minded. When pressed on the issue of the Analayo and Brahmali vendetta...

Any time bro. Definitely not brothers. :jumping: "For the Blessed One, O Lord, spoke these words to me: 'I shall not come to my final passing away, Evil One, until my bhikkhus and bhikkhunis, laymen and laywomen, have come to be true disciples — wise, well disciplined, apt and learned, preservers o...

Nothing wrong with discussion/debate. I love debating.
Personally, I have not noticed any debate from you.
Because so far you haven't initiated any good one. Show real debate and real debate will come.
