Re: Why can't conceit and wrong view arise together?

I think the confusion is in the word "together". You'll have to be more explicit in what sense do you mean: do you mean "simultaneously together" (time-wise), or "collectively together" (space-wise)? CMA only rejects the "simultaneous" part for the reasons already provided on pages 95 and 96. And ba...

Re: Are the asavas the default state of mind?

If a car is still running, then it's true that it still has fuel in its tank as the default. Of course there's the exception of the "Arahant car" that still keeps running a bit longer after it has depleted all its "fuel" due to residual momentum but it will soon come to a full stop. Another importan...

Re: Why can't conceit and wrong view arise together?

But according to the definition of "wrong view", when she's occupied with comparing herslef with another, she is seeing things in a distorted way (i.e., accompanied by wrong view). Am I correct? But if one citta is separated from another not by seconds, but milliseconds, microseconds, or even nanos...

Let's see what you said earlier : "There's no support in the Canon for that. The six sense bases are usually expressed as the five "physical" sense bases plus the mind. If the mind was the same as the brain, it would've been lumped together with the other five to be expressed as the six "physical" ...

Re: If mind = brain

I searched the mind , it does not come up with sutta provide definition . If there is one, perhaps I am not familiar with the search functionality . That's the problem. You only want to "search", but not to "read". Maybe if you spend some times to actually read the suttas, you'll be able to find ou...

But, no specific definition found on mind itself .
I saw your Read icon and assume you're the type who loves to read and at least browses thru those suttas first before responding.

Re: Why Practice The Four Protective Meditation?

To see the reason why, it's important to see clearly the purpose of those meditations. These meditations are there primarily to protect you from....yourself, not only to ward off evil spirits and stuff: Metta bhavana to counter anger, Repulsiveness to counter lust, the Buddha against ignorance, and ...

Re: If you become a Sotapanna will you know that?

if it's rare enough to find a legit. and certified quantum physicist, it should not be surprising not to see a Sotapanna around. Is quantum physics a hard subject? What sort of IQ required? Does Sotapanna have the same IQ? Use this simple logic, a quantum physicist's gotta be a very very smart pers...

Re: If you become a Sotapanna will you know that?

It is frustrating that even a prominent monk such as him is not a Sotapanna yet. Why? If it's so rare to find a professional in a mundane discipline like a quantum physicist in the world, imagine how much more difficult it'd take to find a supramundane "professional" like a Sotapanna! About the OP,...

meanwhile the arūpa jhāna serve no purpose whatsoever unless you want to realize Nirodha. Actually they're legit and absolutely critical components to the approach of "red-lotus" practitioners. On the 7-fold classification of noble individuals, refer to MN 70 . On the red-lotus vs. white-lotus indi...
