Re: Why SuttaCentral is so Feminist

I'm surprised that no one has clarified that SuttaCentral.net is one thing and discourse.suttacentral.net is another. The confusion is not without cause and people making bug reports often don't understand the difference. That's true but Sujato's agenda's already crept over into the suttacentral.ne...

Re: Theravada and Sex: Sexual Misconduct

Sujato appears to have not translated the passage. It appears Sujato deliberately skips the item for suttacentral still hasn't replied after I sent an email requesting them to correct the error thru their contact address: suttacentral.net@gmail.com. It's one thing to differ in interpretations regar...

Re: What is Sātheyya?

Satheyya/fraud or treachery is one of the 16 CittasUpakkilesa /Defilements of the mind mentioned in MN 3 . Ven. Bodhi in his online lecture series on the Middle Length Discourses ( https://bodhimonastery.org/an-extended-study-of-the-majjhima-nikaya.html ) explained it as exploiting other's trust and...

I think you're just avoiding my questions.
I've provided you source/reference while you have not provided anything despite being asked quite a few times.

Re: Theravada and Sex: Sexual Misconduct

In his translation of DN 31, the Bhikkhu Sujato appears to have not translated the part about parents marrying their children. According to Pa-Auk, what is this bhikkhu's future destination? What is this bhikkhu's future course? Good catch. Let's hope it was just some unintentional error on his sid...

Re: High Blood Pressure

I would like to shift my focus from insight meditation and start focusing on Samatha because I really need to relax and get my BP readings down. Meditation alone simply won't cut it. You'll need to combine it with good diet, sufficient sleep time, and daily exercises (outdoor cardios would be best)...

Re: Is it okey to buy Meat in a foodstore and eat?

Its forbidden to order Meat and eat it so i Wonder this Jīvaka, those who speak thus: ‘They kill living creatures on purpose for the recluse Gotama, and the recluse Gotama knowingly makes use of meat killed on purpose and specially provided for him’, these are not quoting my own words, but are misr...

Re: Any recommended talks / teachings on equanimity?

Any recommendations for talks or writings would be appreciated. Sometimes a short story works just as good as a long lecture: The Zen master Hakuin was praised by his neighbors as one living a pure life. A beautiful girl whose parents owned a food store lived near him. Suddenly, without any warning...

Re: Dhamma as Phenomena

What is the difference then between dhammas and sankharas? There're different meanings for both terms. See their definitions here and here . Per the definitions, the 4th meaning of sankhara is a subset to the 3rd meaning of dhamma: It occurs further in the sense of anything formed (sankhata) and co...

Re: Why Dhammawheel is not growing?

An interesting OP question, but a more important question, imho, is for each member to ask themselves the exact reason why s/he posts on DW. Is it simple chit chat to kill time? to show off one's impressive Dhamma knowledge to others? to stir up gossips and frivolous talks? If those are the reason t...

Re: Does ignorance originates from defilement ?

As I'm sure you know there are many interpretations of DO, some traditional and some contemporary. Personally I don't find any of them satisfactory. Could you could explain how ignorance arises in dependence upon aging and death, which would be necessary for your "circular" interpretation of DO? Co...

Re: Thought Experiment

"Suffering"'s probably too narrow a term for dukkha. If going by "unsatisfactoriness", it'd be easier to see that it's a universal trait for both the haves and the havenots. For the havenots, it's fairly obvious to see. For the haves, there's the impermanence of all conditioned things and hence the ...

Perfection of Sila will lead to liberation. So will the perfections of Samadhi and Panna. But each component ALONE will not.

Re: Does ignorance originates from defilement ?

Actually I think the interpretation of DO spanning multiple lifetimes is valid, but IMO the logical candidate for cyclical existence is the bhava nidana, since birth(s) arise in dependence upon it. I see the three lives model as somewhat contrived, though perhaps less contrived than some of the alt...

Re: Does ignorance originates from defilement ?

I'm still not seeing a basis for your assertion that DO is a circle - could you explain this with reference to DO suttas? I think there is a basis for saying that some nidanas are cyclical internally, eg bhava represents a cycle of birth and death, but I don't see how DO as a whole is a circle. It'...
