Re: What is this missing ingredient between Jhanas and Nibbana?

Dispassion leads to nibbana. The mind revults at all existence and the mind turns away from the world and turns towards the deathless element. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

Re: Why is brahma vihara is important in Buddhism ?

I was in a car sitting next to someone who was in a tired grumpy mood I started to mentally recite the metta sutta and after a few minutes I could sense his spirits lift I kept going for the whole car ride it made me feel better towards him and also made him happy.

Dispelling hatred and resentment

A good attitude to cultivate when someone harms you is understanding they will receive bad kamma. So instead of having angry thoughts towards them you can feel sorry for them and even have compassion for them because they will suffer from the law of kamma vipaka.

Re: Does negative thinking matter?

Yes that's the sutta. I'm not sure what's causing your anxiety but doing this practice can't hurt. After doing a day of this applying it to every action mental verbal and physical I felt the bliss of blamelessness it was a very pleasant abiding.

Re: Does negative thinking matter?

I follow the Rahula sutta sometimes I did it all day one time and I asked myself is this afflictive to myself or others or both? When a negative thought came up or intention for negative behavior this motto just naturally released the negative thought intention by itself. I think letting go of negat...

Re: Schools are teaching kids empathy and self-control.

Do you remember elementary school? how can this be a bad thing? Cyber bullying and bullying and drug use are what spurred this brahma Viharas in the classroom. Practicing compassion is never dangerous. Kids used to make fun of my big ears and I remember Indian sunburns head locks and kids punching e...

Re: What now?

Thank you pondera it's pretty bad as my situation has not changed. Every time I think a wholesome thought something as trivial as oh I'll clean up my coffee filter so my father can use it. This causes my headache if a negative or neutral thought arises there is no headache. I am aware of some adhamm...

What now?

After meditating normally doing Anapanasati and metta I have realized I cannot meditate due to my mental illness. Although this is kind of a tragedy I think I can still progress in the Dhamma maybe I'll aim at heaven not nibbana. It's hard because I've come to a point where meditation was hugely mor...
